Each year, our Fellows produce capstone projects that allow them to apply and interpret their Fellowship experiences in various forms, such as essays, poems, and scholarly articles. We publish selected works in our annual Journal, which often has recurring themes—some reflecting the time and climate they were written in, and others reflecting the core FASPE themes of professional responsibility. We are pleased to share a digital copy of the 2024 Journal. Today's ethical leaders must be conscientious, self-aware, and willing to question their motivations. These traits are embodied by our Fellows and reflected in the pieces linked below. https://lnkd.in/ejWcR9kr

FASPE challenges future leaders to recognize their ethical responsibilities as professionals.
关于我们
FASPE is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote ethical leadership and responsibility among professionals—beginning with recognition of the influence that professionals have on all aspects of contemporary society. FASPE’s distinctive approach is to examine the roles and behavior of individual professionals in Germany and elsewhere between 1933 and 1945 as an initial framework for approaching ethical responsibility in the professions today. By examining the behavior and motivations of the professionals who -- by choice and action -- enabled and enacted Nazi policies, we establish the importance and urgency of professionalism and ethical leadership today.

On Saturday, we joined our partners at The Bander Center for Medical Business Ethics, Chicago Booth Healthcare Initiative, and MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago for an interdisciplinary symposium exploring the intersection of ethical considerations necessary in both medicine and business to ensure quality and trustworthy healthcare for patients. The program was both well-attended and well-received by our audience. We are grateful to our panelists, moderators, and speakers for guiding us through the day with their expertise and thoughtfulness.

Words cannot express how meaningful and lasting my FASPE (Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics) experience has been. Beyond the reflections I had last spring when the BLT (Business, Legal, and Tech) group traveled to Germany and Poland, the community has provided some of the most welcoming and thought-provoking discussions I’ve had in recent years. A few weeks ago, FASPE held our annual reunion in Princeton, NJ. We had the privilege of Musa al-Gharbi opening the session with a thought-provoking lecture on “symbolic capitalists,” which I am still grappling with regarding my own complicity. I also had the chance to my fellow 2024 BLT alumni to further the discussion and catch up over the last few months In a world often trapped in echo chambers, my fellow FASPE alumni challenge me to think beyond my narrow tech-world scope and consider the broader impact of decisions. The impact and friendships I’ve made are unparalleled. Photo cred: Marissa Guiang
One of my dear mentors and role models David Goldman said, "No one wakes up in the morning and plans to misbehave." (see David, I always cite my sources). I was deeply fortunate to attend to an incredible ethics conference at Princeton University with a coalescing reunion of some of brightest, most thoughtful, and kindest minds at Faspe. In an era of rapid innovation, social uncertainty, and disengaged changes, ethical decision-making isn’t just a social necessity—it’s a personal responsibility. Ethics in medicine isn’t just a checkbox—it’s a duty. Ethics in business isn't just an option—it’s an imperative. I'm deeply grateful for my friends, colleagues, and mentors to continue to foster these heartfelt ethical discussions. No one is alone; we're in this together! The 2025 Alumni Reunion brought together over 100 alumni to reconnect, learn from each other, and engage in lectures and conversations on maintaining ethical values while navigating shifting landscapes within our professions and society. Being a FASPE fellow at the outset of my professional career was an invaluable experience and I so appreciate any opportunity to reconnect with the FASPE community. Was an absolute pleasure to serve on the planning committee and participate at the reunion on the gorgeous Princeton campus last week.

Musa al-Gharbi, author of We Have Never Been Woke: The Cultural Contradictions of a New Elite, and Betsy Levy Paluck, Eugene Higgins Professor of Psychology & Public Affairs at Princeton University, led our plenary sessions as guest speakers. Special thanks to our partners at the Princeton GradFUTURES program at the Princeton University Graduate School for their support in coordinating the Reunion. There’s nothing like a FASPE trip! ???? This past weekend, I had the joy of attending the annual FASPE alumni reunion at Princeton University. It was a wonderful three-day schedule spent in conversation and connection—both rekindling old friendships and making new ones (so much so that I only managed to capture a few photos!). We were joined by two keynote speakers as well: Dr. Musa al-Gharbi, Asst. Professor of Communication & Journalism at Stony Brook & Dr. Betsy Levy Paluck, Eugene Higgins Professor of Psychology & Public Affairs at Princeton. As always with FASPE, my cup is full. I’m left reflecting on our group’s rich conversations about the challenging yet necessary and relevant questions: As young professionals, how do we consistently approach ethical decision-making in our respective fields with humility, grace, and compassion—upholding basic human rights, ensuring access to fundamental needs, and fostering the health and sustainability of our world—amidst shifting ethical landscapes? What are our values? What lessons can we draw from the history of ethical decisions in our profession and those in kindred professions? Also, lastly: Very thankful to have my writing published in the 2024 FASPE journal! Digital copy coming soon.?? FASPE (Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics)
