This semester, FTBEC (Fashion and Textile Business Excellence Cooperative) is partnering with?Gerber?Childrenswear, LLC?(Gerber) on a sustainable packaging initiative. In response to new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation,?Gerber?is actively seeking solutions to reduce packaging waste. A team of four NC State graduate students is collaborating with?Gerber, evaluating packaging for top-performing items and brainstorming ways for sustainable alternatives. This project has provided the team with an opportunity to apply their critical and analytical skills to solve real-world challenges. The students are excited about the prospect of seeing their?solutions implemented and displayed in major retailers like Walmart and Target. FTBEC values projects like this, where students engage directly with the industry, applying their knowledge to practical scenarios, and preparing for future careers. Companies interested in similar collaborations are encouraged to contact Dr. Ellie Jin, Founder and Executive Director of FTBEC at NC State University, at [email protected].

FTBEC's first-ever conference on AI in the Textile and Fashion Industries last Friday was a tremendous success! Rather than delving into coding or technical specifics, the conference focused on sparking meaningful dialogue about AI's transformative impact on our industry. AI is now omnipresent, and understanding how it's reshaping every facet of the textile and fashion business is essential for staying competitive. It was truly inspiring to witness the level of engagement from everyone—from small boutique owners to large corporations, and from industry professionals to academics nationwide. The success of this event is a testament to FTBEC's mission to bridge industry and academia, fostering innovation and growth. Seeing my vision, enthusiasm, and hard work come to fruition through FTBEC is incredibly rewarding. A heartfelt thank you to all the attendees, speakers, panelists, sponsors, and volunteers for their role in making this event so impactful.
