The lack of consensus on the definition and importance of fascia has always generated debate. A new article published in the Journal of Anatomy proposes a concrete definition: fascia as an anatomical system in its own right, with four distinct organs and essential biomechanical functions! ?? ?? Main points of the study: ? Fascia is a layered system that covers the entire body, allowing tensional load and shear mobility. ? The fascial system is composed of four anatomical organs: superficial, musculoskeletal (deep), visceral and neural fascia. ? Its layers have distinct biomechanical properties, with some being more rigid (collagen) and others more viscous (hyaluronic acid), allowing different types of movement. ? Defining fascia in a universal way can unite different disciplines and transform research and clinical practice! ?? And there’s more: all the authors of this study will be at the 7th Fascia Research Congress in New Orleans! ?? When? August 10-14 ?? Where? New Orleans, USA ?? Furthering understanding of the properties and functions of fascia
关于我们
The Fascia Research Society promotes human health and well-being by connecting researchers and clinicians to develop better understanding of fascia. This previously disregarded part of human anatomy is proving to have notable impacts on physiology. Facilitating research and making that research available to clinicians accelerates the ability for new insights to translate into improved health outcomes. Society membership includes a broad range of professionals from scientists in fields from biology to veterinary medicine and clinicians practicing in professions as diverse as acupuncture, physiatry, and yoga.

Did you know animals have fascial lines too? Check out this recording from Dr. Vibeke Elbrond’s at the World of Fascia Congress Online! Fascial networks in horses and dogs support movement, proprioception, and coordination—but tight fascia can cause pain and mobility issues. Rehabilitation like myofascial release can help restore balance and performance.

Hyaluronan (HA) is key to fascia health, aiding in lubrication, hydration, and movement. It balances fascia's solid and liquid components, supporting mobility and reducing pain. Disruptions in HA dynamics can impact musculoskeletal health—researching this could unlock better therapies! Learn more in this video from Dr. Rebecca Pratt, recorded at the World Congress of Fascia Online! Comment your thoughts on this topic below.
