Gov. Gavin Newsom proposes doubling Hollywood tax credits from $330M to $750M annually and is set to announce his plan today. While this is a great start, why not propose tax incentives that surpass every city, state, and country we compete with? Los Angeles, after all, is supposed to be the entertainment capital of the world. Also, let's make sure this plan INCLUDES tax incentives for unscripted content. I encourage everyone in California who works in or is affected by the loss of production in LA to call or write to Gavin Newsom's office. We have to make our voices heard: https://lnkd.in/g88zCjSB Highlights from the article: - Aim: Combat the alarming production drop and the exodus of filming from California. - Potential: $3.75B in tax credits over 5 years starting in 2025. - LA Mayor Karen Bass: "This means film production can stay." Thanks, Mayor Bass, but we should have created an environment that never gave productions the incentive to leave in the first place. - Recent data shows LA filming is nearing historically low levels. - Unscripted TV production in LA is down 56% compared to last year. - Since 2020, CA lost $1.6B in spending from productions denied tax credits. - CA faces stiff competition from GA, NY, UK, and Canada, which offer more generous incentives. - Visual effects work is often outsourced due to the lack of a standalone VFX tax credit in CA. - Industry unions stress that production in CA is in "real peril," putting middle-class jobs at stake. #FilmIndustry #Hollywood #CaliforniaTaxCredits #ProductionIncentives Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g3KXUbP2
