This photo was taken the day I knew we could live a less stressful life, during a pandemic, by taking back the calm that was stealing our joy. It's the day I started my lavender farm. Have you heard about the Farmstead? A lavender farm in Cazenovia, NY, built from 5 generations of agricultural stewardship. Started during Covid, in an unused patch of land that was reclaimed and reinvigorated when our young family needed to find calm during chaos. With a background in engineering and product development and a passion for all things natural and authentic, community, and wellness, I planted 4,000 lavender plants by hand and shared it with our family and friends. And their stress melted away. I’ve always been soothed by the scent, probably stemming from childhood memories of my late mother sewing sachets and filling them with lavender to keep under my pillow. So this just happened!! We aced it! The Farmstead on-site 20-C kitchen is up and running and ready for actions. ?? When life gives you lemons, we make lavender lemonade. ???? After learning that the amazing Shared Use Kitchen, where I make our best selling Lavender Hot Coco Mix, was going to close last month, I got to work on approving our own kitchen. Many other regional small producers have been left without a place to process their goods, now I can invite them to use this space, too, in addition to continuing production of our own lavender product line. ?? 10 years ago, I began my life without Corporate America, trading steel toes and high heels for muck boots and mom jeans. 5 years ago I started our non-profit to bring agriculture literacy to the next generation. And this weekend, I got to compete in a Shark Tank competition at Colgate University, with other amazing, passionate, and talented ventures, and received 2nd place. Life can be pretty cool when you bet on yourself. Congratulations to all of the ventures who were present, and my unending thanks to the mentors that made it possible.
