At Farmshare Austin, our mission is to grow a healthy, just and equitable local food system.
关于我们
Farmshare Austin is a 501c3 with a mission to grow a healthy, just and equitable local food system by increasing community food access and cultivating new farmers. We envision a future of resilient local food economies that ensures equitable access to food and to the resources needed to farm. Farmshare Austin builds bridges between the produce grown on our 10-acre certified organic farm in Eastern Travis County and food access programs reaching food insecure communities in Central Texas. Our work is guided by four key areas of focus: EDUCATION Our pilot educational program, Farmer Starter, focuses on giving aspiring farmers the knowledge they need to run a sustainable farming business. The program emphasizes sustainable and organic growing methods as well as practical business and financial skills to establish a successful market farm. Yields from our Farmer Starter classes are sold directly to our food access program and sold wholesale to local vendors. FOOD ACCESS Fresh For Less (FFL) is a program in partnership with the City of Austin and Sustainable Food Center. The goal of FFL is to reduce geographic and economic barriers to accessing healthy fresh food for people living in Austin's areas of food apartheid. Through the FFL Mobile Markets & Curbside Delivery programs, residents living in the eastern crescent of Austin and Travis County will have access to affordable, healthy and fresh food.

I’m so excited to share that our work at Lake Travis ISD to bring fresh, locally grown food to our school cafeterias was featured in Community Impact! ?? Through partnerships with local farmers, Central Texas Food Bank, and The Common Market Texas, we’re sourcing high-quality, minimally processed foods to nourish our students and our community! Thanks to these collaborations, we've been able to remove allergens from our menu, increase scratch-cooking in our cafeterias, and give students a "taste of Texas!" This year, you can find Texas-raised burger patties from Ratcliff Premium Meats , Texas-grown organic rice from DOGUET'S RICE MILLING CO. and Greener Pastures Chicken wings, on our cycle menu with a variety of Texas-grown fruits and vegetables offered daily! I'm overjoyed to share our first delivery of fresh veggies from the Central TX Food Hub! In partnership with the Central Texas Food Bank, Manor Independent School District, Florence Independent School District, and supported by the USDA-Agricultural Marketing Service Local Food for Schools Grant, we’re bringing "Central TX food to Central TX schools." ???? Our first stop was Lake Travis Middle School, where we packaged up local produce into "farm fresh" boxes for distribution across other campuses. Since our main distributors don’t typically carry food grown or produced in Central TX, creating a Central TX food hub is a critical step toward building a more resilient food system for the region. This week, students will enjoy fresh produce from Farmshare Austin in Austin, TX + Hope Full Farm in Dripping Springs, TX, including: ?? Okra ?? Lunchbox Peppers ?? Bell Peppers ?? Cucumbers ?? Arugula ?? Jalape?os ?? Basil ?? Cilantro This milestone aligns with our Lake Travis ISD Food & Nutrition theme for the year: "Nourishing Kids and Communities." By supporting local farmers, we strengthen our local economy, reduce our carbon footprint, and provide nourishing food that gives students a sense of place. ?? A big thank you to the great minds and hearts behind this effort! Lianka Soliz, Ryan Cengel MS MA RDN LD SNS, Lillian Barnett, Tracy Ayrhart, Ph.D., Matthew Hanson, Mark Jackson, Todd Frease, Earind C. Jackson, Trisha Bates, Hallie Casey, Diego DiVerde, Sustainable Food Center, Edwin Marty, Amanda Rohlich, MPA, Ian Hunter-Crawford, Jacob Grob, Urban Roots, Andrea Abel, Farmshare Austin, The Refugee Collective, Texas Department of Agriculture ... and the amazing Central TX farmers growing food for this community! #LocalFood #CentralTX #FarmToSchool #Community #SupportLocal #NourishingKids #SustainableFood #FoodHub #SchoolMeals #HealthyKids #FreshProduce #ChildNutrition #Foodsystems #LocalFoodForSchools #LFS
