Dear Farmer-to-Farmer Volunteers and Supporters, The Farmer-to-Farmer program was officially terminated on January 26, 2025, following a review of all USAID awards and contracts by the Secretary of State and the Acting USAID Administrator. We want to express our deepest gratitude for your unwavering support over the years. Together, we have strengthened host organizations, fostered economic growth, and deepened U.S. understanding of international development. Your dedication to the mission of Farmer-to-Farmer has been truly inspiring. As we prepare to close this chapter, please note that this page will no longer be actively monitored and will be closing soon. It is deeply regrettable that we won’t have the opportunity to continue collaborating, but we remain grateful for the impact we created together. Thank you once again for your commitment and support. With gratitude, The Farmer-to-Farmer Team

关于我们
The USAID-funded John Ogonowski and Doug Bereuter Farmer-to-Farmer Program provides technical assistance to farmers, farm groups, agribusinesses and other agriculture sector institutions in developing and transitional countries to promote sustainable improvements in food security and agricultural processing, production, and marketing. The main goal of the program is to generate sustainable, broad-based economic growth in the agricultural sector through voluntary technical assistance. A secondary goal is to increase the U.S. public’s understanding of international development issues and programs and international understanding of the U.S. and U.S. development programs. The main objectives of the program are to: Increase agricultural sector productivity and profitability; Improve conservation and sustainable use of environmental and natural resources; Expand agricultural sector access to financial services; and Strengthen agricultural sector institutions. Our Approach The Farmer-to-Farmer Program leverages the expertise of volunteers from U.S. farms, universities, cooperatives, private agribusinesses and nonprofit farm organizations to respond to the local needs of host-country farmers and organizations. Volunteers, recruited from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, are generally individuals who have domestic careers, farms and agribusinesses, or are retirees who want to participate in development efforts; volunteers do not have to be overseas development professionals to participate in the program. Farmer-to-Farmer is USAID-funded and implemented by Catholic Relief Services, ACDI/VOCA, CNFA, IESC, Land O'Lakes International Development, National Cooperative Business Association CLUSA International, Partners of the Americas, and Winrock International.

Recently, #FarmerToFarmer volunteer Mike Doherty completed his eighth assignment training Cacahuatl’s?board of directors in El Salvador through the National Cooperative Business Association CLUSA International (NCBA CLUSA). Cacahuatl is a small but growing cacao marketing cooperative that was placed with Mike in order to increase member participation. Mike said that he was able to use his years of experience in cooperative and business development, along with his association management experience, to guide the cooperative’s directors through a SWOT process, develop and prioritize their 2025 strategic objectives, and create a six-point plan to attract greater member participation.? “I really enjoy engaging farmers in organizational development and capacity building processes,” Mike said. “I’m adept at negotiating the group dynamics of cooperative boards and their lead farmers. Each project I’ve assisted has required creative communications and a strategic planning process to unveil achievable objectives and stir excitement for future accomplishments.” NCBA CLUSA Field Coordinator Jennifer Portillo said, "It was a pleasure to work with Mike in the development of the Cacahuatl assignment. He was very respectful, patient, and proactive. Cooperative members felt comfortable sharing their experiences in meetings, because Mike showed them he was there to help. They felt motivated to keep working hard in the cooperative to achieve?their?goals.” Mike said that he truly enjoys working with farmer cooperatives on their strategic planning, marketing strategies, membership, and organizational management. “Seeing these groups grow and achieve greater benefits for each member is so fulfilling. I’m really looking forward to my next opportunity!” he said. #SustainableAgriculture #SustainableFarming #Volunteering #Agriculture

Recently, Catholic Relief Services #FarmerToFarmer volunteer Pradeep Patnaik supported Jimma Cooperative Union in #Ethiopia with an assignment focused on international coffee marketing. Pradeep leveraged his networks to link the union to two new potential buyers. He also introduced Jimma to the Happy Farmer Concept whereby the union will charge 10 cents extra on every kilo of coffee it sells as a premium to pass on to farmers. The Jimma leadership integrated this concept into its strategic plan in the hopes of securing a reliable supply of the farmers’ best coffee beans and a better deal for its smallholder suppliers.? ? #CoffeeFarming #SustainableFarming #SustainableAgriculture #PeopleOverProfits ?
