Agrin'pulse is a Spanish agricultural technology company that has developed a specialized robotic solution built on the Amiga platform. Their customized robot features a 3-point hitch, a 300L chemical herbicide applicator, and a 2.4kWh solar-powered battery setup. Designed for autonomous pallet collection and precision herbicide application, the system addresses specific regional farming needs, from terrain conditions to crop varieties and local environmental constraints. Our team of graduate and undergraduate students?Hamid Habib Syed,?Faraz Ahmad,?Mohtasim Hadi,?Md Mesbahul Maruf?and?Carter Freeman) supervised by Dr.?Tanzeel Rehman?has won the “Excellence in Productivity Award” at the Farm Robotics Challenge at?FIRA - World Ag Robotics Forum?24 in Sacramento. This is the first time Auburn University has won an award in this challenge organized by?UCANR?,?AI Institute for Next Generation Food Systems (AIFS),?Western Growers,?Farm-ng?with support from the?F3 Innovate. The award carries a cash reward of?$5000. The team received an award for developing Florabot, an innovative end-to-end autonomous ground-based robot capable of ornamental plant counting and quality assessment. A special shout out to our AgMentor Dr. Jeremy Pickens for providing the insights on the crop production and management side. A design team from Olin College of Engineering and their robot, the “PhoenixBot,” have won the $10,000 grand prize in the second annual Farm Robotics Challenge, organized by UCANR and AI Institute for Next Generation Food Systems (AIFS), with support from Farm-ng. The award was announced on Oct. 24 during a ceremony at the FIRA USA robotics conference in Woodland, Calif. Huge congratulations to the team, who leveraged AI, machine learning, automation, and coding and fabrication in their year-long challenge to advance innovation in agriculture! ?? ?? I’m excited to share that last week our team won the Excellence in Small Farm Tech Award at the Farm Robotics Challenge during the FIRA - World Ag Robotics Forum 2024 in Sacramento, California! I had the privilege of leading the bin-picking project, and it was a amazing experience working alongside Syed Usama Bin Sabir, Divyanth L G, Priyanka Upadhyaya, Achyut Paudel and the talented undergraduates from Heritage University. A huge thank you to our advisors Dr. Manoj Karkee and Dr. Safal Kshetri, for their support and guidance throughout the project. In addition to the award, I presented my research on automated pruning robot in apple orchards, which utilizes 3D reconstruction techniques to model the tree’s structure and guide the end-effector in branch cutting. The feedback I received was incredibly valuable, and I’m eager to further develop the project. Special thanks to our funding partner AgAID Institute, and the team at Farm-ng—Nathan Dorn, Marcelo Scatolin Queiroz, and Guilherme De Moura Araujo—for their continuous support. Earlier this week Kristof and Swapnil had the pleasure of visiting NIAB to demonstrate the Farm-ng Amiga and it's capabilities as a lightweight, versatile R&D agricultural robotics platform. ?? They were joined by Tony Gent of Gentle Farming who was able to share his perspective using the platform for our collaborative work developing an autonomous platform suited to future arable cropping systems. ??
