Here's a VERY early peek at Johnny, our new and improved reforestation robot from the Carnegie Mellon University Robotics Institute's Kantor Lab! Johnny is CMU's submission to the Farm Robotics Challenge. We've opted to use an arm with a gripper that we 3D printed. This allows us to adapt our planting behavior to new environments, and to potentially support new tasks in the future without needing new hardware. We're using the Farm-ng Amiga, which has been great to work with. Not pictured is a powerful auger that we're using to drill the holes (we're re-mounting it). I'll keep you posted as our project advances! We'll be done in a few weeks.

Welcome California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo to the Farm Robotics Challenge!! Team PolyFlow is developing on the Farm-ng #Amiga designing it to efficiently lay irrigation drip lines into the ground. Their configuration will reduce labor costs, improve installation accuracy, and increase water-use efficiency for farmers. By automating this process, they aim to make large scale irrigation setup faster, more precise, and less physically demanding. The design will focus on integrating precision placement technology using GPS, sensors, and automated actuators to ensure proper spacing and depth of the drip lines.
