In the video, Michael Box of Victory Irrigation highlights how they helped convert 250 acres of hay and alfalfa from flood irrigation to overhead sprinkler irrigation with a Kifco, Inc. traveling hose reel, buried PVC, a new irrigation pond, and remote automation with FarmHQ. At FarmHQ, we make an effort to remain mindful of the big picture in agriculture, and use publicly available data sources to continue educating ourselves. Check out this post from our Co-Founder and CEO where he analyzed the 2018 USDA NASS Census of Irrigation:
?? ?? California is the only major agricultural state to rely on drip irrigation for more than 50% of its irrigated land. ?? ?? Even more surprising: some states rely on flood irrigation for nearly 100% of their irrigated acreage! These were just two of the many surprises I found when taking a closer look at the data from the 2018 USDA NASS Census of Irrigation. As the growing season kicks off this year, I'm challenging myself to write one post a week covering a different topic related to farming, using publicly available data sources wherever possible. This is part of my effort to remain mindful of the big picture in agriculture, even as we at FarmHQ focus on one very specific aspect.
