“At 10 p.m., a hospital technician pulls into a Walmart parking lot. Her four kids — one still nursing — are packed into the back of her Toyota. She tells them it’s an adventure, but she’s terrified someone will call the police: ‘Inadequate housing’ is enough to lose your children.” This heartbreaking reality, shared in Brian Goldstone's latest article in The New York Times, is one we at FamilyAid witness far too often. More and more working families—teachers, healthcare workers, service employees—are being pushed into homelessness as wages fail to keep up with skyrocketing housing costs. Goldstone’s upcoming book, There Is No Place for Us, explores the rise of the working homeless, a crisis we at FamilyAid urgently address every day. We appreciate his work in highlighting the challenges families face and the systemic changes needed to ensure safe, stable housing for all.
