Many people are misinformed and think kids in foster care are only certain ages or genders. Kids in foster care are all races, ethnicities, genders, LGBTQ and ALL ages. Birth to 18! Many people are misinformed and think only certain people can be foster parents. Actually single, married, working, retired, straight, LGBTQ, all races, all ethnicities, age 21 and up, previous parents and people who have never parented before are foster parents. All different kids need all different foster parents. Family Room is here for all of them! We are here to love, encourage and support ALL foster parents and ALL kids in their care. Family Room’s mission is to love, encourage and support families that foster and children in foster care. The first way we do that is by acknowledging with our words that children in foster care are more than just a “foster kid”. Are they IN foster care? Yes. Are they “A foster kid” ? NO. They are daughters, sons, students, athletes, artists, funny, smart, adventurous, strong, boys and girls who happen to be spending time IN foster care , at no fault of theirs. The label “foster kid” is not one that should define who they are because it is not who they are. Their time in foster care is just a part of their story. Help us give them dignity, give them respect, give them love, encouragement and support during a very difficult time in their lives. Don’t give them a label. 10 kids in 24 hours. That 10 includes a preemie, a 6 month old, a toddler, several children and several teens. They come into foster care at a moments notice, usually with whatever they are wearing. Being here for them at a moments notice so they can have the things they need right away is our priority. Beds, car seats, strollers, clothes, toys and more were provided right away. Please keeps these children and the families caring for them in your thoughts.
