Helping victims of domestic violence and their children, particularly on the South Side, since 1981.
关于我们
For over 30 years Family Rescue has been dedicated to eliminating domestic violence in the Chicago community by providing comprehensive support services and shelter to victims of domestic violence, particularly abused women and their children; engaging in advocacy to promote future system change; and encouraging prevention through community education. Family Rescue operates for core programs: Ridgeland Apartments and Children's Program (RAP), Rosenthal Family Lodge (RFL), Community Outreach (COR), and Legal Advocacy (LAP). RFL is an emergency shelter for abused women and their children. It houses our 24-hour bilingual crisis line. RFL is the only domestic violence shelter located on Chicago's south side. Programming assists families in breaking the cycle of homelessness due to violence by providing trauma sensitive counseling and case management, and help in the transition to permanent housing. RAP is a subsidized supportive housing program with an on-site after school program. This program is a national model which operates under the theory that women with children who are traumatized by domestic violence and are then forced into homelessness have very specific needs and face unique barriers in developing and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle. LAP supports a victim's attempt to end a violent relationship by gaining access to the criminal justice system and act on behalf of victims and their children, ensuring their safety and rights are protected under the Illinois Domestic Violence Act. Staff members provide court accompaniment, advocacy with law enforcement and judicial personnel, assistance in obtaining orders of protection and crisis counseling. COR provides portable domestic violence services that go to where victims gather in the community in addition to providing on-site services. Services are provided in both English and Spanish. Group counseling is offered at several locations in the city and suburbs.

Our Special Report on #DomesticGunViolence is out now! Here is a brief overview of the findings from our report ?? Domestic Gun Violence (DGV), as defined by The Network in the context of this report, is an incident of gun violence documented by the Gun Violence Archive characterized and publicly identified as being connected to #DomesticViolence As part of our #MeasuringSafety2023 series, this Special Report on Domestic Gun Violence features a deep dive on data from Illinois, discusses context on the recent Supreme Court #RahimiCase, and gives background on a legislative solution, #KarinasBill. These are the effects of DGV in Illinois: ??After looking at national data, IL ranked 9th in 2023 for highest total deaths and injuries related to domestic gun violence. The top 3 states include Texas (458), Tennessee (206), and Louisiana (186). ?? Even though the number of shootings has stagnated in IL, they have grown in lethality. Compared to pre-pandemic 2019, domestic gun violence deaths in IL have increased by 63%! ?? On average in IL in 2023, each domestic violence shooting resulted in more than 3 times as many deaths as non-domestic violence shootings. ?? DGV-related murder-suicides have doubled since 2019, and in 2023, accounted for 82% of all gun-facilitated murder-suicides in the state. ?? Although DGV only accounted for about 12% of all mass shootings in Illinois in 2023, it accounted for 64% of all mass shooting victim deaths, demonstrating once again the staggering lethality of DGV. Illinois reflects a national issue of the intersection between gun violence and domestic violence. Despite critical federal and state laws like the results from the #RahimiCase, more must be done to ensure those who have caused harm do not have access to firearms. #KarinasBill clarifies and strengthens the law to ensure firearm removal and enforcement can occur consistently and judiciously as part of the order of protection granted by a judge. We encourage you to get involved with our policy advocacy work by downloading our report ??https://lnkd.in/gnKr4PSU and signing up for our policy action alerts! ?? bit.ly/3JHbhBx #EndGunViolence #GenderBasedViolence #MeasuringSafety
