    If you have ever heard me talk about writing your resume and LinkedIn profile, I talk a LOT about the importance of focusing on your value and highlighting what makes you a cost-effective employee. This video, a highlight from this week's episode of the Lessons Learned for Vets Podcast with the inimitable Gary Steensgard, gives you a little glimpse into why this is so important. Have you ever stopped to consider how much it costs a company to screen, hire, onboard and retain and employee? Every step requires time, resources and money and a bad hire or high turnover rates can cost a company more than you can imagine. This episode with Gary gives us such valuable insight into the hiring process from the HR point of view. Remember, hiring you is a business decision. It is up to YOU to show them why that is a good investment with the following strategies: ? Showcase how you can positively impact the company in the role. Take the focus off of you and instead make the resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile about how you can help the employer. ? Quantify your results. Can your skills save the company time or money?     I’ve created a movement to have more women leaders do a raw and honest brand of storytelling. Personally, I’ve unlocked magic and opportunity having done it myself. The tone and timbre of the call, after someone has viewed my TEDxTalk, changes completely. It was the most raw and honest brand of storytelling I had ever done. I went on to be paid 18x to give that talk. I want that for my clients too. A big piece of the way I cultivate courage in my clients to share that way is by taking her out of her comfort zone. Taking her out of country. There is a direct correlation between who says ‘yes’ to my retreats and who makes it to the big stages, like TED. Those who don’t go on the retreats———don’t make the stage. It happens year after year. Travel isn’t about the money. It’s about the courage. I’m putting the finishes touches on the “Deep Writing and Reflection Retreat in Vienna” this December. On the itinerary, embedded in-between strudel eating and opera, are testimonials from attendees of previous retreats. Testimonials matter because ?People trust peer recommendations more than advertising. Seeing real people vouch for my retreat reassures potential customers that I deliver on my promises. ?Testimonials tell stories, and stories create emotional connections. A well-written testimonial can make a potential customer feel seen, understood, and eager to experience the same success.
