Join us in celebrating our February Employee of the Month, Patricia Miller! Patricia works in our Environmental Services department, where she touches the lives of many people in our facility. One day, this brought her up to our Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and she was able to spread Christmas cheer to a patient that she made a special connection with. She secured resources that helped the quality of the patient’s stay, embodying our mission in the care and improvement of human life. Patricia went above and beyond to make sure this patient was cared for, treating them with compassion and kindness. At Fairview Park Hospital, she is always there to lend a helping hand to her coworkers in need, and she never fails to have a bright, happy smile on her face. We are proud to work alongside someone so thoughtful and passionate, and we are thankful for your commitment to our patients and staff!

As we kickoff Pulmonary Rehabilitation Week, we wanted to highlight someone special on our team, Mrs. Janet! Janet was a patient at our Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Center in 2009 after undergoing a heart catheterization. During the procedure, they found a blockage, placed a stent, and she began therapy shortly after. “All I needed was supervision, help, and experienced people, and that’s exactly what I got.” Janet, Cardiac Rehab Patient, 2009 Once Janet completed therapy, she realized just how much of an impact the team made on her life, and she decided to become a part of that experience for others in our community. In 2014, she became a volunteer at Fairview Park Hospital, and she has been helping patients just like her ever since. Janet, we are so thankful for the numerous hours you have spent volunteering to help our staff and patients. Your dedication and commitment to others is unwavering, and we are so proud to work alongside you!

Join us as we recognize our most recent DAISY Award winners, Jennifer Brinson, RN, and Jessica Leonard, RN! The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. We are fortunate to have two DAISY Nurse Leader Award winners! Here’s how Jennifer and Jessica are excellent role models for our staff: Jennifer is a remarkable Nurse Leader whose extraordinary behavior and unwavering compassion set her apart as a leader of 4th floor. She leads with empathy and strength, understanding that the emotional well-being of every member of her staff is just as crucial as patient care. She takes the time to connect with each team member, actively listening to their concerns and celebrating their successes, big and small. Her infectious positivity inspires her team to embrace challenges as opportunities of growth and learning. She is always consistent and comes in with joy and a positive attitude that makes many difficult shift bearable. Jessica is everything you envision a nurse should be. She does not only demonstrate compassion for her patients and their families but her colleagues, as well. Jessica is a critical thinker, using evidence and analytical processes to solve issues. She is quick in responding to codes in our unit and on other floors, and she is always our calm in the storm. Any time a nurse or patient care technician needs assistance with a difficult situation, Jessica is there without complaint and with a willingness to help. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, even when she has several tasks of her own. She is strong but not rude, bold but not a bully, and she stands for what is right and is willing to teach and learn. As a fellow nurse, I look up to Jessica. She is the epitome of a great Nurse Leader, and I am honored to work with her. Need we say more? These two nurses are extraordinary, and we are so thankful for their dedication to our patients and staff. Thank you for all you do!

Join us as we congratulate our double Recognizing Ancillary Excellence (RAE) Award winners, Courtney Bays and Jessica Hargrove! These selfless ladies work in our Radiology Department at Fairview Park Hospital, and the story behind this award will truly touch your heart: The patient’s journey with us began as he came into our facility after being injured in a car accident. He was on his way to get his wife in Atlanta when this occurred. Everything he owned was in his car, which was totaled after the accident. He also had his dog with him, and someone at the scene took his dog to keep safe. The patient felt like he had lost everything and was ready to give up when he arrived at Fairview Park. After hearing his story, Jessica contacted a local pastor who, unknown to her, had just received a text from someone that wanted to give away a car. They were able to give the patient (pictured below) a car, fill it up with gas, and got his dog returned back to him. While talking with the patient in the parking lot, they found out he was from Kennesaw, which is Courtney’s hometown. Courtney then contacted her father, and they were able to set him up with an interview for a job. This patient came to Fairview Park feeling like he could not go on with life. He left our facility with his whole life turned around. If that wasn’t enough to inspire you, this patient also got saved in the parking lot with the local pastor. Jessica and Courtney have kept in touch with him, and he was able to arrive in Atlanta safely to get his wife. They are continuing to make sure that he has everything he needs to live contently with his family. We couldn’t be more grateful to Courtney and Jessica for helping this patient solely out of the kindness of their hearts. They worked diligently to make sure he was taken care of after feeling lost. They not only helped him heal physically, but emotionally and spiritually, as well. We are so proud of the both of you. Thank you for treating your patients like family, no matter the circumstances.

Courtney Kight, RN, was recently awarded the DAISY Award for her heartfelt work at Fairview Park Hospital! The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates skillful, compassionate care that nurses provide every day. Nominated by one of her patients and a visitor, Courtney displayed an amazing level of care – Patient: “I myself am a nurse. From the moment Courtney introduced herself, she made sure I knew that she was here for me as a person, not as a room number. She listened when I told her how I felt, and she made sure I received relief from the chest pain I was having. Because she took the time, I finally felt like I could breathe again after two days of struggle. This brought tears to my eyes and an overwhelming sense of hope that answers were coming for my condition. Courtney took the extra mile to listen to my concerns and help address them with me, right by my side. She went above and beyond to care for me, and her desire to help was more than I could have asked for.” Visitor: “My husband and I had a conundrum of events on this visit to the hospital. The only constant and comforting factor was Courtney. I could go home and sleep knowing she was his nurse. Courtney took excellent care of him. When we both were worried about his condition, she was constantly checking on him – calling the physician and LISTENING to us. Courtney made sure he was cared for, watched over, and advocated for my husband’s care. I teach nursing, and Courtney exemplifies what nursing is! Being a new nurse, she exhibits the critical thinking – clinical judgement model!” Courtney, you greet patients and their families with a smile and a calming presence. You are not just a caregiver - you are an advocator, comforter, and a problem-solver. You bring empathy and strength to every situation, making a difference in even the most challenging circumstances. Thank you for embodying our mission to care and improve human life!
