Fair Wisconsin and GSAFE today filed a joint complaint to the Office for Civil Rights at the United States Department of Education in support of trans and nonbinary students, educators, staff, and families in schools in the Kettle Moraine School District. Fair Wisconsin and GSAFE are committed to creating safe learning environments in Wisconsin schools, and will continue to respect trans and nonbinary students’ identities and protect their rights by filing more complaints with the Office for Civil Rights as hostile environments in other school districts are brought to the organizations’ attention. Since then, Fair Wisconsin has worked to advocate for worker’s rights statewide, from working with the office of the Governor to fighting for the equal treatment of domestic partnerships under the law in communities across Wisconsin. In response to the Biden administration's recent position statement opposing the full continuum of care for transgender youth, Fair Wisconsin reaffirms that trans youth, the people who love them, and the people who care for them are the only people who should make decisions about health care for trans youth.

Today, we recognize the ninth anniversary of the Obergefell v Hodges Case, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. Marriage represents so much to so many people, and the right to marry who you love is an important element of what it means for our community to have equal rights. We also recognize that marriage equality is the floor, not the ceiling, and we still have a while to go before LGBTQ+ families and community members are truly equal under the law. Let’s keep fighting together ????????????

Today we honor Harvey Milk Day, in recognition of a prominent gay rights activist and the first openly gay person elected to California public office. His legacy lives on in the ongoing fight for LGBTQ rights, and today on what would have been his 94th birthday we pledge to carry on this fight every day, and build a better world for our LGBTQ community members ????????????
