Indonesia’s Labor Law No. 6/2023 and Government Regulation No. 36/2021 ???? on wages outline the rules for implementing minimum wages. However, many employers are not properly preparing for or implementing these wage structures, resulting in negative impacts on worker wages and noncompliance with legal requirements and labor standards. FLA has released a ???issue brief with recommendations for companies so they can ensure their suppliers in Indonesia have a defined wage structure and scale that complies with both legal requirements and FLA standards: https://lnkd.in/dHNcVt9N #LivingWages #FairCompensation

Putting fairness to work
关于我们
Fair Labor Association (FLA) promotes human rights at work. We are an international network of companies, universities, and civil society organizations collaborating to ensure that millions of people working at the world’s factories and farms are paid fairly and protected from risks to their health, safety, and well-being. We know that transparency and accountability are the foundations of responsible business and see a future where fair working conditions are the standard, not the exception. For more than 20 years, we have been creating solutions to the world’s most complex supply chain labor rights problems and advocating to give workers a voice in making factories and farms better places to work.

Great conversation with American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and Fair Labor Association teams and members with the Bangladesh Ambassador to the U.S. and his Embassy team. U.S./Bangladesh relations are at a pivotal moment in time as we work to chart and sustain a predictable path forward based on strong commitment to workers rights and a balanced and robust trade partnership.

Last week, FLA hosted our March Board Convening in Washington, DC. More than 100 board members, staff, and representatives from participating companies, universities, and civil society organizations gathered for three days of education and networking. This year's meeting came at a time of significant upheaval and challenges for our stakeholders. FLA’s President and CEO Jeff Vockrodt stated: “With all the uncertainty around us, FLA’s role as a source of both stability and innovative leadership is more important than ever. Everything we are doing, and everywhere we are investing to strengthen existing programs and develop new ones, is designed both to support implementation of mandatory due diligence and maximize impact, advancing effective human rights due diligence, no matter what the regulatory environment looks like.†Read our full recap: https://lnkd.in/epZ7q6ZZ #mHRDD #DueDiligence #FairLaborMember

“More than 50 FLA corporate members…work alongside hundreds of civil society organizations and universities to address risks in their supply chains in practical and effective ways. Together, they create solutions that are based on shared industry standards and a credible system for evaluating company compliance.†Our board chair Michael Posner highlighted FLA and our work — like our Fair Compensation Toolkit and #HarvestingtheFuture projects — in his new article for AACSB. Today, FLA along with amfori - Trade with Purpose, Cascale, Etisk handel Norge - Ethical Trade Norway, ETI Sverige - H?llbara leverant?rsled, Social & Labor Convergence Program, and Fair Wear Foundation urged EU policymakers to ensure the EU corporate sustainability due diligence and reporting framework aligns with internationally recognized standards. We appreciate the European Commission’s efforts to simplify due diligence requirements and ease administrative burden on European businesses. However, simplification must not come at the cost of reducing the effectiveness of due diligence. We call on EU policymakers to: ?? Preserve a proportionate, risk-based approach ?? Harmonize enforcement for legal certainty ?? Create certainty for businesses that have invested in CSRD reporting Simplifying due diligence and reporting requirements can be achieved without moving away from the spirit of international standards on responsible business conduct. We call on the co-legislators to make the simplification exercise both effective and meaningful for companies and the people affected in their supply chains. ? ??? It was great to spend a few days this past week with #FairLaborMember(s), in person and online from all over the world. The FLA community is remarkable and forward-thinking – with everything they and their institutions are navigating, this group came together to collaborate and continue to shape the future of human rights at work. This week was a reminder that, although we are surrounded by uncertainty, FLA is a source of both stability and innovative leadership. Our members and partners can plan and innovate with us, confident that together we are leading the way on robust, practical, impactful, and credible human rights due diligence (#HRDD). Fellow human rights organizations can look to us as a steady partner. Civil society, universities, investors, regulators, and consumers can look to us as a reliable source of insight and accountability. Most importantly, workers can look to us for robust standards, reliable processes, and impactful remediation to safeguard their human rights and improve their lives. As we navigate uncertain times, a few things give me confidence: Our exemplary board; our committed and innovative members and partners; the remarkable excellence of our staff team at all levels; FLA’s solid foundation, built over 25 years; and our continuing record of innovation and leadership. All of these were on display this week. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Great to see you all! Michael Posner Irit Tamir PRATHIKA K. We wrapped up an insightful Fair Labor Association board convening this week, which included a training session on FLA’s Principle 9 and Civil Society Engagement. The session highlighted the importance of building meaningful, authentic partnerships with civil society, especially unions and worker organizations, as well as other key stakeholders. We explored the critical need to foster trust, safety, accessibility, and respect in these relationships. A key takeaway was the importance of ongoing communication and ensuring that engagement leads to tangible action and change. CSOs shared their expectations and challenges, emphasizing the need for companies to create safe, inclusive, and genuine spaces for collaboration. By the end of the session, participants walked away with practical strategies to enhance their CSO engagement and a deeper understanding of how to align with FLA’s benchmarks. It was energizing to see the FLA community and our partners working together at such a pivotal time for workers and human rights! Many thanks to Bureau of International Labor Affairs friends and partners, Fair Labor Association and American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA), for their strong support for ILAB's essential work. Smart, forward-looking businesses know that they will only thrive in a global economy where workers' rights are respected and enforced. And we know that full-throated business support is essential to the work of the U.S. government in this area.
?? Today, we sent a joint letter with American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) to the newly confirmed Secretary of Labor calling to preserve and promote the Bureau of International Labor Affairs and its programs to defend workers. ILAB: ?? Works to build institutions in countries around the world so that they can effectively protect their workers, raising labor standards, including eliminating child labor and forced labor and promoting freedom of association and collective bargaining.? ?? Provides training to workers so they know their rights and how to defend them ?? Deploys labor attachés to U.S. embassies in key countries to provide real time intelligence, contacts, and solutions to promote and protect workers.? ?? Enforces the labor provisions in trade agreements to ensure a level playing field for American workers.? ?? Is a critical funder and manager of the International Labor Organization’s Better Work program, which establishes strong labor enforcement and transparency in key countries around the world. ???????? ???????? ???? ?????????????????? ?????? ?????????? ?????????????? ???????????????? ??????????????.
