Last week, on 19 March 2025, the MiB team had the pleasure of meeting with Ms. Gita Nauli, Senior Regional Manager for Southeast Asia at the Fair Labor Association (FLA) ??. Our discussion focused on how MiB and FLA can collaborate to better engage brands and factories in ensuring fair working conditions across Bangladesh’s RMG sector ??. With growing global attention on responsible sourcing and due diligence ??, we explored meaningful ways where our data and research can support FLA’s mission and create more transparent, worker-centered supply chains ??. We have 2?? staff milestones to celebrate this month: our agriculture program associate Gheeeun Song and social compliance program manager Emily Dodson both just hit their 5 year anniversaries at FLA. Gheeeun enhances the agriculture program’s tools and systems to increase coherency and accountability and has contributed to FLA projects like the Worker’s Voice mobile application that establishes grievance mechanism procedures at farms. Emily specializes in developing and enhancing manufacturing assessments for accreditation, rigorously evaluating factory conditions, and conducting on-site visits to member headquarters worldwide. She utilizes her experiences to provide practical guidance to #FairLaborMember(s) on adopting best practices for creating effective social sustainability programs. Indonesia’s Labor Law No. 6/2023 and Government Regulation No. 36/2021 ???? on wages outline the rules for implementing minimum wages. However, many employers are not properly preparing for or implementing these wage structures, resulting in negative impacts on worker wages and noncompliance with legal requirements and labor standards. FLA has released a ???issue brief with recommendations for companies so they can ensure their suppliers in Indonesia have a defined wage structure and scale that complies with both legal requirements and FLA standards: https://lnkd.in/dHNcVt9N #LivingWages #FairCompensation

Great conversation with American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and Fair Labor Association teams and members with the Bangladesh Ambassador to the U.S. and his Embassy team. U.S./Bangladesh relations are at a pivotal moment in time as we work to chart and sustain a predictable path forward based on strong commitment to workers rights and a balanced and robust trade partnership.

Last week, FLA hosted our March Board Convening in Washington, DC. More than 100 board members, staff, and representatives from participating companies, universities, and civil society organizations gathered for three days of education and networking. This year's meeting came at a time of significant upheaval and challenges for our stakeholders. FLA’s President and CEO Jeff Vockrodt stated: “With all the uncertainty around us, FLA’s role as a source of both stability and innovative leadership is more important than ever. Today, FLA along with amfori - Trade with Purpose, Cascale, Etisk handel Norge - Ethical Trade Norway, ETI Sverige - H?llbara leverant?rsled, Social & Labor Convergence Program, and Fair Wear Foundation urged EU policymakers to ensure the EU corporate sustainability due diligence and reporting framework aligns with internationally recognized standards. We appreciate the European Commission’s efforts to simplify due diligence requirements and ease administrative burden on European businesses. However, simplification must not come at the cost of reducing the effectiveness of due diligence. We call on EU policymakers to: ?? Preserve a proportionate, risk-based approach ?? Harmonize enforcement for legal certainty ?? Create certainty for businesses that have invested in CSRD reporting Simplifying due diligence and reporting requirements can be achieved without moving away from the spirit of international standards on responsible business conduct. We call on the co-legislators to make the simplification exercise both effective and meaningful for companies and the people affected in their supply chains. ? ???
