?? Oregon's Hidden Housing History Bus Tour?? Today, I had the privilege of joining SMPS Oregon Chapter for a deeply impactful bus tour, led by the Fair Housing Council of Oregon, that brought to light our state’s often-hidden history of discrimination, displacement, and segregation. The tour highlighted key moments in Oregon's history, from exclusion laws ?? designed to keep African Americans out, to the devastating Vanport flood ??, the Japanese internment camp at the Portland Expo Center ??, and even Oregon’s dark past with the Ku Klux Klan ???. And more recently, the 1988 tragic hate crime murder of Mulugeta Seraw in SE Portland ??. A huge thank you to the SMPS Oregon JEDI committee, the Fair Housing Council of Oregon, and the incredible presenters: ? Ed Washington, Director of Community Outreach and Engagement at Portland State University ? Marleen Wallingford, President of the Portland Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) ? Dr. Moe Bowstern, author of It Did Happen Here: An Antifascist People’s History ? Our amazing tour guides, Gina Rizk and Marlee Baker ?? If you haven't had the chance yet, I highly recommend joining this tour. Let's educate ourselves, learn from the past ??, and ensure we build a future where fair housing is a reality for everyone ???. #FairHousing #OregonHistory #Equity #Inclusion #SMPSOregon #CommunityEngagement #JEDI #Vanport #JapaneseAmericanHistory #NeverForget
