In December 2024, telehealth utilization increased nationally and in every region except the West, where it decreased, according to FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker. Nationally, telehealth claim lines increased from 4.82 percent of medical claim lines to 5.04 percent, a 4.5 percent increase. In the Midwest, the increase was 5.6 percent; in the Northeast it was 3.1 percent; and in the South it was 4.7 percent. In the West, however, telehealth claim lines decreased by 0.9 percent. The data represent the commercially insured population, excluding Medicare Fee-for-Service, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid. In November 2024, acute respiratory diseases and infections increased in percent of telehealth claim lines in the top five telehealth diagnostic categories nationally and in every region, according to FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker. At the national level, acute respiratory diseases and infections increased from 1.9 percent of telehealth claim lines in October to 2.7 percent in November, a 37.9 percent increase. In the Northeast, the rise was 43.5 percent; in the South, it was 29.9 percent; and in the Midwest, it was 13.9 percent. This diagnostic category did not change rank anywhere except the West, where an increase of 39.4 percent brought it from 10th position in October (at 1.1 percent of telehealth claim lines) to 5th position in November (at 1.6 percent), so that it rejoined the top five in that region for the first time since April 2024. Today, as part of a national initiative funded by The John A. Hartford Foundation (JAHF), the national, independent nonprofit FAIR Health launched a new shared decision-making tool for Alzheimer’s disease that features clinical information for self-care and drug therapy options, as well as related cost information. The new tool is accompanied by an educational healthcare cost tool and resources, such as printable checklists and links to websites and organizations that offer additional information and resources. Provided at no cost to users, these offerings are available through FAIR Health for Older Adults (fairhealtholderadults.org), in a newly created section on Alzheimer’s disease. FAIR Health for Older Adults is an online resource in English and Spanish for older adults and family caregivers. Hundreds of thousands of users—a record number—visited the site last year. In October 2024, telehealth utilization increased nationally and in every US census region but the Midwest, where it decreased, according to FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker. Nationally, telehealth claim lines climbed from 4.80 percent of medical claim lines in September to 4.89 percent in October, an increase of 2.0 percent. In the Northeast, the increase was 1.0 percent; in the South, it was 1.2 percent; and, in the West, it was 2.8 percent. In the Midwest, however, the telehealth share of medical claim lines decreased by 3.7 percent. The data represent the commercially insured population, excluding Medicare Fee-for-Service, Medicare Advantage and Medicaid.
