Thank you, Dr. Sandra Upton, for sharing your deeply insightful and personal journey at Failure Lab. Your story of navigating early leadership, facing imposter syndrome, and learning from failure resonates powerfully. By bravely opening up about the challenges of cultural identity and workplace dynamics, you've reminded us of the importance of empathy, growth, and accountability in leadership. Watch the full video to hear Sandra’s inspiring journey. Each Failure Lab story deliberately ends at a crucial, unresolved moment, transforming the audience from passive listeners to active participants in a social experiment rooted in empathy and reflection. This intentional lack of resolution not only invites self-inquiry but also encourages the audience to share their reflections and connect with the storyteller’s experiences. Questions like “What would I have done?” or “When have I felt what the storyteller felt?” naturally arise, turning one person's narrative into a multitude of personal experiences. 关于我们
Failure Lab helps communities, organizations, and individuals remove failure-based roadblocks to innovation, collaboration, and creative thinking. Through provocative corporate training and storytelling events we are pushing back on the fear of failure and encouraging intelligent risk taking. TRAINING Failure Lab training is, at its core, communication and culture training. It is empathy training. It is “how to be a better human” training. The complexities of organizations are endless. There will always be new org charts, new hires, new production issues, new sales obstacles, new interpersonal conflicts. The common denominator is people. At Failure Lab we believe that if the people that make up an organization are more self-aware, more thoughtful, more empathic, more effective in communication, and have better understanding of human behavior - the answers will reveal themselves, the pieces will fall into place, and progress will become inevitable. It doesn’t matter what you are selling, what product you are producing, what problem you are trying to solve. If the humans in your organization are constantly striving to “be better humans” and have more nuanced understanding of those around them - the problem solving required to elevate your organization will emerge. EVENTS Failure Lab events showcase the untold struggles behind successful people. These unique events bring communities and organizations together through powerful stories, crowdsourced lessons, and music. There is much to be learned from sharing our struggles–everyone fails, the real question is how do we respond to failure? The events consist of storytellers and entertainers and can be customized to fit a one- or two- hour format. The special ingredient is the storytellers not resolving the story of what happened after the failure. The audience’s own lessons are crowdsourced and used to create a new dialogue that brings teams together.

Sometimes, the hardest lessons lead to the greatest growth. Andrew’s journey is a powerful reminder of this. Despite facing devastating losses, he found a way forward and courageously shared his story. Through his vulnerability, Andy shows us that even in the darkest moments, there’s space for reflection, change, and growth. His story isn’t about a triumphant ending, but about the quiet strength it takes to keep moving. Entertainer Announcement: Isabella Salas During Failure Lab events, every story is followed by a performance. Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Isabella first trained at Ballet Chelsea under Wendi Dubois before earning a scholarship to Miami City Ballet’s pre-professional program. After graduation, she continued her development as a trainee for Cincinnati Ballet where she danced in numerous company productions including the roles of snow and flowers in The Nutcracker and the swan corps in Swan Lake. In 2021, Isabella joined Ballet Austin as a Butler fellow and was promoted to Ballet Austin’s second company the following year. She performed in multiple corps roles in Steven Mill’s Nutcracker, Swan Lake, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cinderella, and the acclaimed Light/ The Holocaust and Humanity Project. These 3-4 minute performances, or palate cleansers, are specifically designed to accomplish three objectives: 1.) Clear the air and recharge the room. 2.) Astonish and captivate the audience within a brief timeframe, and 3.) Familiarize the audience with extraordinary local talent that they may not have had the chance to encounter otherwise.
