On July 18, 2024, Bay County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Sheeran dismissed a lawsuit filed by a group attempting to illegitimately overthrow the Chamber’s board and seize its assets. This ruling confirms that the rightful board of the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce remains in place and paves the way for our client to reclaim its land and bank account—essential for organizing and hosting the beloved annual Cornfest and continuing its valuable services to the Auburn community. We are proud to have played an important role in achieving this outcome by defending our clients’ rights and safeguarding the community’s interests against those who sought to disrupt and displace the Chamber’s important work. We’re excited to share a significant legislative milestone for Michigan’s inland lakes. On July 23rd, Governor Whitmer signed Senate Bill 662 into law as Public Act 112 of 2024. This new legislation brings essential updates to how inland lake levels are managed in Michigan. The law revises the definition of a “normal level” to better reflect natural fluctuations due to weather and other factors, addressing issues from a previous court ruling that imposed strict lake-level standards. Additionally, the law provides for interim financing, ensuring that lake-level projects are appropriately funded. We are incredibly proud to have played a supportive role in advocating for this change.
