#HumansofFactor Meet Gillian Kelly, Senior Associate, Legal Entity Management at Factor!? "My family and I moved to the seaside town of Portstewart in Northern Ireland in 2018 after spending holidays there with our kids. Living by the sea has transformed our lifestyle. I try to see the sea daily, even if it's just for a short walk during lunch. There's something about it that resets you. At the weekends, I love sea swimming – even in winter! I'm part of a swimming group called the Menopausal Mermaids. One of my favourite adventures was swimming at the Giant's Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We chartered a boat and swam up to the stones. At Factor, I work in Legal Entity Management, which involves entity formation, keeping entities in good standing, and providing board support. We can get numerous urgent requests – sometimes we need to form companies immediately, which means dropping everything else. What I enjoy most is that we're part of the client team. We work with a tier-one bank, which gives us great exposure to directors at high levels. It's highly regulated work –so it's all about accuracy and attention to detail. The hybrid working arrangement I enjoy at Factor is perfect for me. As a remote worker, I am only in the Belfast office two days a month, which makes a huge difference without a four-hour round-trip commute. When I do go into the office, I love reconnecting with my team, and I often stay for happy hour! Those in-person connections are so valuable. This flexibility has been crucial with four teenagers at home – our youngest turns 13 in May and our eldest is 18. Some have additional needs, so being able to work from home means I can attend their appointments while maintaining my career. As a family, we enjoy a slower pace of life, making time for those beach walks and family dinners. Before Factor, I spent 20 years in the voluntary sector. With my undergraduate degree in psychology and social policy, I was drawn to community work. My career change came later, after getting involved with boards and committees, which sparked my interest in governance. I completed a Boardroom Apprentice scheme and later pursued a Master's in Corporate Governance and Management while working full-time and raising four children. To anyone considering a career change, I'd say go for it. You're never too old – there were people in their 60s in my Master's programme. Your previous experience isn't wasted; you bring different skills that others might not have. If you're feeling stuck, what do you have to lose? Factor attracted me because of the board support work and the smaller firm environment. During the interview process, I met half the team – not just management – which gave me confidence I'd fit in well. At Factor, I've been able to build the career I want while still enjoying family life in my seaside surroundings." (Gillian is pictured below with her swimming group, front center and far right)

Earlier today, our CEO, Kieran Donoghue, and the Department for the Economy NI Minister, Dr Caoimhe Archibald, met with our client, Factor, in New York. The company are a market leader in the provision of complex legal services and a major employer in Northern Ireland as they have established a centre of excellence in the region back in 2012.
