Mature Companies: Staying Competitive and Innovative UX research is no less important for established companies with mature products. In fact, maintaining competitiveness often relies on continuously innovating and optimizing user experience. User-Centered Innovation: Mature products often reach a point where innovation slows down. UX research can reveal unmet user needs, helping you innovate in meaningful and strategic ways rather than reactively. Maintain Relevance: As technology and user behaviours evolve, what worked five years ago might not be as effective today. UX research keeps you attuned to changing user expectations, ensuring your product remains relevant in a fast-paced market. Scaling Globally: When expanding to new markets or user segments, research can guide localization efforts and help you adapt your product to different cultural and behavioural contexts, minimizing the risk of alienating new users. There is no “too early” or “too late” when it comes to UX research. The role of UX research shifts and adapts depending on your growth stage, but it remains a fundamental tool for building products that users love. Don’t wait. Start investing in UX research now, and let your users guide your success. #UXResearch #ProductDevelopment #UserExperience #BusinessGrowth #FactLab

Growth Stage: Aligning Product With User Expectations ?? Once you have product-market fit, investing in UX research becomes about refinement and scalability. Your user base is growing, and so are your competitors. At this point, your focus should shift towards optimizing the product to meet evolving user expectations. ?? Enhance User Retention: Understanding why users stick around (or why they leave) becomes critical at this stage. Through continuous UX research, you can identify pain points that may be causing churn and refine the product to improve long-term retention. ?? Feature Prioritization: As your product evolves, deciding which features to prioritize can be challenging. UX research helps you identify the most impactful areas for development based on real user feedback, ensuring your product roadmap stays user-centric. ?? Optimizing User Journeys: With a growing product, user journeys can become increasingly complex. UX research can highlight friction points in your flows and uncover opportunities to simplify and enhance the overall experience. #UXResearch #ProductDevelopment #UserExperience #BusinessGrowth #FactLab

The Best Time for a Company to Invest in UX Research ?? User Experience (UX) Research has become an essential component of product development across industries. From start-ups to large-scale enterprises, understanding users' needs, behaviors, and pain points can be the difference between success and failure. The common question often is: When is the right time to invest in UX research? The simple answer is: anytime—whether you're a new startup or an established company. Here’s why UX research is critical at every stage of a company's lifecycle: 1. Early-Stage Companies: Start With a Strong Foundation In the early days of a startup, when resources are tight, and the product is still a concept or MVP (Minimum Viable Product), it may be tempting to skip UX research. However, this is the most crucial time to invest in it. ?? Avoid Building the Wrong Product: Early UX research helps validate your core assumptions. Are you solving a real problem? Do potential users want what you're building? This can save you months of development on features that won’t resonate with your target audience. ?? Identify Your Target Audience: Many startups pivot because they realize too late that they’ve misjudged their market. UX research gives you data-driven insights into who your users are and how they interact with similar solutions. ?? Efficient Use of Resources: At an early stage, every dollar counts. UX research ensures that the resources you allocate towards design, development, and marketing are aimed in the right direction. We’ve explored why early-stage companies should prioritize UX research to build a strong foundation. But what about growing startups or established enterprises? The need for UX research doesn’t stop here! Stay tuned for our upcoming articles, where we’ll dive into the next stages of a company's growth and uncover how UX research can continue to drive success at every step of the journey. Don't miss out on valuable insights that can transform your approach to user experience! #UXResearch #ProductDevelopment #UserExperience #BusinessGrowth #FactLab

Can You Trust Experimental Results? It's exhilarating to see a dashboard showing positive, significant metric shifts from an experiment. Even if the experiment involved only 30k users and the impact is minor, the plan is to implement this change for all users and expect similar metric growth by quarter's end. Is this realistic? It might be too optimistic. Unfortunately, reality often differs. Three experiments with a +1% conversion uplift each don’t typically add up to a +3% overall conversion. Why? Randomness. An experiment isolates variables to show the direct impact of a specific action. However, real-world results often differ from lab-like conditions. Here are four reasons for discrepancies: 1. External Factors ??- The market is dynamic; changes like a new iOS update or a competitor's move affect outcomes. 2. Inconsistent Groups ??- The experimental group might slightly differ from the entire audience, leading to hidden effects. 3. False Positives ??- Statistical methods include a 1-5% chance of errors. About 1 in 20 experiments might falsely appear successful. 4. Short-Term Focus ??- Experiments focus on immediate outcomes, which might not hold over a longer period. The good news? Skilled analysts can manage these factors. Tips to Address These Issues: - Repeat or scrutinize doubtful experiments. - Pause the rollout if you’re concerned about short-lived results. - Ensure your analyst has strategies for inconsistent broader audience results. Remember, an experiment is like a lab test. Innovations need real-world testing before making final decisions. Celebrate metric improvements from an experiment, but the true celebration is at quarter's end when the financial team confirms the results. Ready to maximize the value of your experiments? Contact FactLab today and let our experts help you turn data into actionable insights. ?? What is Product/Market Fit and How to Know It's There? ?? Written by Ilia Bolgov for FactLab, this article is part of our series on analytics for startup CEOs and founders. At FactLab, we understand that achieving product/market fit is a crucial milestone for any company. But what exactly is it, and how can you tell when you’ve hit this target? Product/Market Fit (PMF) is the point where your product successfully meets the market's demands. It's when customers start buying your product, using it regularly, and even recommending it to others. In essence, PMF is achieved when your product resonates so well with the market that it essentially sells itself. But how do you *know* you’ve reached PMF? See some key indicators in the carousel below. Analytics play a vital role in identifying and confirming PMF. By leveraging data-driven insights, you can track key metrics like user acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue. These analytics provide a clear picture of how well your product is performing in the market and whether it meets customer needs. A powerful tool to measure PMF is the Sean Ellis Test. Sean Ellis, a pioneer in growth hacking, developed a simple survey question to gauge PMF: “How would you feel if you could no longer use this product?” If at least 40% of respondents say they would be "very disappointed," it’s a strong indicator that you’ve achieved product/market fit. This test helps you understand the emotional attachment and dependency your customers have on your product. Many product analysts consider the successful Sean Ellis test to be the ultimate sign that the PMF has been achieved. At FactLab, we specialize in helping companies navigate their journey to achieving PMF. Our expert team uses cutting-edge analytics and proven methodologies like the Sean Ellis Test to uncover insights and drive strategic decisions that align products with market demands. #ProductManagement #MarketFit #Analytics #FactLab #ProductMarketFit #BusinessGrowth #CustomerSuccess #SeanEllisTest #AnalyticsForStartups

Assessing the Value of Analyst Performance In the quest for efficiency, organizations strive to evaluate numerous processes within the company. Analytics has grown in popularity for this reason. However, quantifying an analyst’s contribution can be challenging and almost impossible to digitize. For instance, as a top manager, you likely receive a general report from the analytical team that tracks your baseline business metrics. This report helps you evaluate company performance, alerts you when issues arise, and aids in planning future projects. In this chain, the sole human decision-maker is you, receiving both the responsibility and the praise for positive outcomes. Even if the report leads to a new process that generates $20 million monthly, attributing this sum directly to the analyst who created the report is difficult. The argument that “without this report, nothing would have happened” is also tenuous. Problems might have been identified through customer feedback, casual conversations, or brainstorming sessions independent of analytics. The primary benefit of analytics is the reduction in uncertainty. One approach to prioritizing initiatives is through the ICE method, which estimates the potential financial outcome of an initiative relative to the effort required. ICE Score = Impact ($) * Confidence - Effort ($) Calculating an ICE score for each initiative can help allocate resources to the most profitable ones. The crucial component is “Confidence.” Since you cannot be 100% certain of the desired impact, an NPV adjustment, similar to an investor’s approach, is necessary. Analytics enhances confidence in decision-making by providing an additional foundation for those decisions. For organizations with large product teams, an experiment can be conducted: release 20-30 features without analytics-based prioritization, relying on vision and experience, and release 20-30 features in parallel prioritized through analytics. Comparing the actual impact to the projected impact (%) between the two approaches can illustrate the tangible benefits of analytics. Typically, analytics-based prioritization outperforms the other method, highlighting the practical value of using analytics. From experience, this approach yields a 30-70% positive effect, depending on the stakeholders' expertise. Is it worth spending time and money on this experiment? Perhaps not, but some analysts have conducted such experiments to validate their methods. My recommendation is to trust your analysts and invest in their development. Their contributions are invaluable. Ready to unlock the full potential of your analytics team? Contact FactLab today to see how we can help you prioritize your initiatives and maximize your business growth. #FactLab #AnalyticsExperts #BusinessGrowth #EfficiencyBoost
