FSG mourns the loss of Ernie Conn, a dedicated employee, a mentor, and a friend whose impact on our organization will be felt for years to come. Ernie joined FSG in 2002 as an Electrical Superintendent in our Fort Worth branch. Ernie’s passion for electrical safety and training quickly became evident and he jumped at the opportunity when a Safety Coordinator role in 2006 became available. After a few years, he transferred to the Austin branch for a new opportunity stepping up as the Safety Manager for the Central Texas operations. As a Master Electrician, Ernie played a pivotal role in developing and refining FSG’s electrical safety processes, ensuring that our teams operated with the highest standards of safety and professionalism. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Ernie helped launch FSG Apprenticeship School in 2019, volunteering to lead the program for the Austin branch. His love for the electrical industry and teaching drove him to constantly expand his knowledge, earning numerous certifications, including OSHA training credentials to teach CPR, First Aid, Electrical Hot Work, and so many more. More than his technical skills, Ernie was known for his unselfish dedication to helping others. He was deeply respected among his peers and served as a trusted mentor and advisor. Ernie Conn was more than a valued FSG employee—he was a cornerstone of our safety culture, an advocate for training and education, and a true friend to so many. Today marked a significant milestone for our team as we conducted our inaugural Lean Construction 101 course for the crew. To kick off the day, we prepared and served a hearty meal of 65 pounds of baby back ribs, smoked to perfection, starting before the crack of dawn, ensuring everyone was well-fed and energized for the day ahead. Following this feast, we delved into a stimulating simulation game that pitted batch work against 1-piece flow. Dividing the participants into 5 teams of 4, each led by a manager, we engaged in 4 distinct simulations aimed at progressively reducing waste, enhancing flow efficiency, and fostering better communication among team members. As an extra incentive, Home Depot gift cards were introduced to elevate the competitive spirit. Personally, the most rewarding aspect for me was witnessing the teams collaboratively tackle challenges, troubleshoot issues, and experience those "aha" moments throughout the exercises. Concluding the session with a reflective discussion, we drew parallels between the simplicity of building Lego airplanes in a game and the intricate processes involved in constructing complex control panels and Prefab assemblies. By linking concepts like work in progress, bottlenecks, and timely deliveries to their daily tasks, the team gained valuable insights into optimizing their workflow and problem-solving skills. ?? Spotlight on Women in Construction at FSG ?? At FSG, over 350 women are making an impact across the company - from the field to the office and from project sites to leadership roles. During Women in Construction Week, we’re celebrating some of the incredible women at FSG who are leading, innovating, and building careers that inspire. ?? Jennifer Cobb started as an Apprentice Electrician in 2019. In just over five years, she became a Foreman and a full-time instructor at Propel Career Academy, shaping the next generation of electricians. ?? RaQuel Cammon went from temp receptionist to a key player in dispatch, billing, and National Accounts support. She’s also FSG Austin’s top learner, completing more training modules than anyone else on campus. ?? Megan Harwell, Danielle Motiff, Randi Loudermilk, Alex Zelaya, and Amelia Buenrostro have each built their careers at FSG, growing into roles in leadership, coordination, and HR while balancing work and family life. ??
