The Centre for Forensic Anthropology is providing an anonymous questionnaire about dorsal hand image comparison (DHIC) in forensic casework. The?survey?is a cooperation project between the Zurich Forensic Science Institute (Switzerland) and the University of Western Australia. It is intended for practitioners in image comparison and analysis who have applied DHIC in their casework. The aim is to obtain a general overview of current DHIC practice and inform future direction of the discipline. The results will be shared at the European Academy of Forensic Science (EAFS) 2025 in Dublin and are considered for international publication. ? The participation is voluntary and anonymous. FISWG Delegate Dr. Nicholas Bacci, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, is presenting ‘The anatomy of facial image comparison’ on Thursday, February 20, 2025. This talk discusses the importance of craniofacial anatomy in facial image comparison for forensic and security applications, emphasizing the current reliance on subjective, descriptive methods and the push towards more quantifiable, statistically testable approaches.? It also highlights the critical impact of image quality on identification accuracy and the need for ethical practices and comprehensive training to ensure reliable and legally defensible outcomes. .
