Materials and Additive Engineer at Fabrisonic LLC Expert in dissimilar metal joining and ultrasonic welding

Last week I had the privilege to share some of my PhD research at the Sheet Metal Welding Conference. This presentation was on the effects that different alloying elements have on the formation of iron-aluminum intermetallics in dissimilar resistance spot welds. This was a great conference with many friends and great discussion. A special thanks to the Aws Detroit Section for putting on such an amazing conference!

Fabrisonic is pleased to introduce the newest member or our team, Luke Walker. Luke is our Materials and Additive Engineer. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 2024 with a PhD in Welding Engineering. His research specialized in ultrasonic and resistance welding techniques for joining dissimilar materials. Luke is an expert in metallurgy and specifically, intermetallic compound formation and properties. Luke grew up on the islands of Indonesia where he enjoyed surfing and scuba diving. We're lucky to have him join Fabrisonic and the world of Ultrasonic Additive Manufacturing.

Fabrisonic's Matthew Burkhart presented "Printing a Better Busbar" to attendees at the Sheet Metal Welding Conference in Livonia, MI on October 22. Fabrisonic's customer, Wiegel Tool Works, harnessed the high-power ultrasonic welding capabilities of UAM to make 23+ million parts annually for one of their EV customers. Fabrisonic is pleased to introduce the newest addition to our UAM capacity, another SonicLayer 4000 to increase our R&D and production capacity! We have been anticipating the delivery of this machine, and it has finally landed in Lewis Center and will be up and running soon making our "cool" and unique metal parts. If you'd like to stop by and see her in person, let us know. We're always happy to host customers to see our world-class UAM production facility.

Ultrasonic welding is an application that bonds material without massive amounts of heat. By doing so, they can insert sensors into parts and provide solutions heavily in the aerospace industry.
