I had such a great day today doing what I love. Today 40 high school students from EVIT came to FABRIC Incubator for a tour and a lesson on Reclaiming Apparel Manufacturing: Local, Tech Driven, Sustainable Manufacturing. I am so proud to be able to provide these kind of legitimate industry resources and experiences for not only apparel entrepreneurs and brands, but also for eager students who would otherwise need to leave AZ to go to traditional fashion cities for industry resources.... that are not nearly as advanced or as accessible as they are at FABRIC. #fashionstudents #apparelentrepreneur #sustainablefashion #fashiontechnology #reshoremanufacturing

I'm SEW excited to share this video story highlighting my daughter's entire journey (condensed into 10 minutes) into creating her sustainable volleyball uniform brand, Talullah Roxie. If you're curious about what the process looks like to be able to take a sewn product through R&D and small batch production using the industry's most innovative tools available at FABRIC Incubator, take a look. I tried to document each step from crowdfunding the idea all the way to developing the samples and ultimately manufacturing a very small test batch so we could use it at FABRIC as an educational example for other aspiring Apparel Entrepreneurs. What's next for Talullah? She sent samples to some college coaches with the goal that they scan the digital product passport and watch her highlight reels and ultimately want to recruit her. But also, if they express interest in the shirts, she may continue to move the project forward and officially start manufacturing these and develop more uniform styles beyond these practice jerseys. Just like any startup, this would require a larger investment and a lot more time and effort. I'll keep you all posted on the journey if she moves forward. In the meantime, if anyone has any connections to the ASU, NAU, or UofA Women's Volleyball coaches or any other university volleyball coaches, let me know. She's hoping to stay in state, but is also open to venture outside AZ for the right fit at a school that has a good sustainability, environmental science, landscape architecture, or even botany program. Thank you! #TalullahRoxie #SustainableFashion #FABRICtempe #SmallBatchProduction #VolleyballLife #DigitalProductPassport #KornitPresto #AthleticallyDriven #EthicallyMade #Rainf4ll #EngineeredPrint #Volleyball #FABRICIncubator #Rainf4ll #DigitalProductPassport #SustainableVolleyballUniforms https://lnkd.in/ggpD94Mt

Reflecting on the transformative year of 2020 during the pandemic, I remember the sense of renewal as life began to reemerge after widespread shutdowns. ??? I was fortunate to be approached by my fashion mentor, Angela Johnson, to reimagine her annual live fashion show, the Labelhorde Fashion Show, as a virtual event. This showcase typically features over 60 local designers and brands from Arizona, highlighting one standout outfit each year. ???? In 2020, I collaborated with Angela, Amelia Walsh, and FABRIC Tempe to create a film that captured the spirit of the fashion show against the vibrant backdrop of the City of Tempe. ????? We even got a cameo of Tempe Mayor Corey Woods! This was a pure volunteer effort, driven by community spirit. Amelia took on the monumental task of coordinating all the fashion designers and scheduling production days, while we relied on our networks and resources to bring this vision to life—all while adhering to strict COVID protocols to ensure everyone's safety. ???? This project was one of the most challenging I've ever undertaken, but it was equally one of the most rewarding. ???? A standout memory for me was waking up at 5 AM with my five-year-old son, Teo, to film the opening sunrise shot at ASU's "A" Mountain. ?? Teo felt like a star, directing morning hikers around our setup and proudly participating in the process. Even now, at nearly ten years old, he fondly recalls our sunrise hike. ???? Since completing the film, I've watched it several times, often critiquing my work and wishing I had made different choices. Yet, I remind myself of the incredible collaboration that fueled this project—the challenges we overcame together to create art while celebrating the fashion artists of Arizona. ???? This experience is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we unite under a shared mission to support and uplift others. Here's the first three minutes of the film, if you want to check out the full 13 minute fashion show film, hit the link below., but I hope you enjoy the result of our collective efforts from 2020. ???? Check out this update from my daughter. This is one of the coolest features of her sustainable volleyball uniform brand.... "Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share a huge feature of my Talullah Roxie volleyball jerseys—the Digital Product Passport! ???? When you scan the passport embedded in each jersey, you’ll see everything from a video showing how these pieces are made to my highlight reel and bio. I’m sending this first batch to college coaches I’m hoping will recruit me, but it’s also a way to introduce Talullah Roxie to schools that might want sustainable, custom jerseys for their teams. ?? But here’s the coolest part: once you have the jersey, you can take over the digital passport! You can upload your own videos, achievements, and tournament highlights, creating a digital scrapbook of your volleyball journey. It’ll help you get noticed at games, and it means your jersey carries memories you can keep forever—instead of getting tossed after the season like most uniforms. ?? I’m really proud to bring something more meaningful and sustainable to the game. Can’t wait for you all to see it!" -Talullah #TalullahRoxie #DigitalPassport #SustainableAthletics #Volleyball #transparency #EthicallyMade #AthleticallyDriven https://lnkd.in/gQxPHpDe

Another update from my daughter Talullah... Our first small production batch has officially been sewn! I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who has supported this journey so far, and a special thank you to FABRIC for providing the education and guidance it takes to navigate such a complex process. FABRIC’s commitment to helping small brands is truly invaluable. They’ve made it possible for me to produce small test batches so I can gauge the market before committing to larger production runs. This allows my brand to stay agile and sustainable, while offering unique benefits to my customers. With tools like the Kornit Presto printer, we can add value through one-of-a-kind artwork on sustainable fabrics, which helps justify the higher price point of these limited-run garments. After all, small batches cost more per piece, so we aim to fill a special niche in the marketplace with sustainable and innovative designs! And don’t forget about our Rainf4ll digital product passport! Each shirt in this batch comes with one, sharing the story behind our brand, its sustainability, and the ethical process that brought it to life. Plus, volleyball coaches can scan the passport in this test batch to see my highlight reels, making these shirts a part of my journey as I connect with the colleges I want to attend! Ideally, these shirts will also inspire these coaches to order my uniforms for their teams so their players can switch to sustainable uniforms that also document their own athletic journeys. Grateful for everyone’s support so far—stay tuned for my next update focusing on the digital product passport feature! ?? -Talullah #TalullahRoxie #SustainableFashion #FABRICtempe #SmallBatchProduction #VolleyballLife #DigitalProductPassport #KornitPresto #AthleticallyDriven #EthicallyMade #Rainf4ll #DigitalProductPassport https://lnkd.in/esh6F6Vw

? What an amazing night at the Greater Phoenix Economic Council 35th Anniversary Event! We were honored to celebrate 35 years of partnership and progress, reconnecting with so many incredible community partners and friends. ?? It was especially meaningful to provide 700 sustainable, zero-waste swag bags made from the deadstock material left over from our efforts to manufacture 800,000 reusable medical gowns during the pandemic—when we had the privilege of working with GPEC. This full-circle moment truly showcased the power of collaboration and sustainability. ?? Thank you to our incredible community for helping us make the bags! ??? A huge congratulations to one of our biggest cheerleaders, Oscar De las salas , for receiving the prestigious Georgia Lord Ambassador of the Year Award. ??? We couldn’t be more proud to celebrate with you! #FABRICTempe #GPEC #35YearsOfImpact #Sustainability #ZeroWaste #DeadstockRevolution #CommunityPowered #CongratsOscar

From my daughter... ?? **Practice Jersey Progress Update!** ?? I’m so excited to share the latest on the Talullah Roxie practice jerseys! ??? We’ve been working on an *engineered print* that’s designed to flow seamlessly across the seams of the jersey, with each element landing in the perfect spot—bringing together style and sustainability in one. Huge thanks to Amelia Walsh FABRIC Incubator’s Creative Director, for making this vision come to life! ?? I had the chance to guide the color choices and direction, incorporating flowers and leaves to reflect the plant-based fibers we’re using in the fabric. ???? What makes this even more special is that the center of each flower features my logo, designed by my uncle Matt. The volleyball shape of the logo fits perfectly in the middle of the flowers, which feels like the perfect symbol for our mission. We also used the volleyball shape as an icon to mark where the Rainf4ll Digital Product Passport is embedded, making it super easy to access the digital content on the jersey. ???? Before we go to print, the design is placed into the pattern digitally and mocked up on a 3D avatar to make sure everything lines up exactly as planned once the jersey is sewn together. I can’t wait to see the final version! ?? -Talullah https://lnkd.in/gfktrkvH #TalullahRoxie #SustainableFashion #EngineeredPrint #Volleyball #FABRICIncubator #Rainf4ll #DigitalProductPassport #AthleticallyDriven #EthicallyMade

As we step into October, we're reflecting on some exciting shifts in the fashion industry, driven by two recently passed U.S. policies that align perfectly with our mission here at FABRIC. In this month's newsletter, we're diving into how?California’s Responsible Textile Recovery Act?and the?Biden-Harris Administration’s Consumer Protection Initiative?are setting new standards for sustainability and ethical manufacturing. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU? These policies represent significant steps toward a future where fashion is more transparent, accountable, and circular—principles that have been at the heart of FABRIC since day one. With the Responsible Textile Recovery Act set to enforce garment recycling programs in 2027, brands will soon be held responsible for their products long after they leave store shelves. Meanwhile, the Consumer Protection Initiative’s crackdown on unsafe labor practices and environmental violations promises better protections for both workers and the planet. CURIOUS??In our blog post, we break down how these laws will transform the fashion landscape and how FABRIC is already leading the charge. The first step toward making these policies a reality is retaining a strong, skilled domestic workforce, and we’re doing our part to make that happen. We’re excited to announce our upcoming National Apprenticeship Week (November 17-23) and an?Open House at FABRIC?on November 16th. If you’re interested in our grant-funded apprenticeship and mentorship certification program (support provided by Jobs For The Future) in partnership with?ISAIC, which begins in January 2025, we encourage you to stop by to learn more about this incredible opportunity.
