Earlier this year, we announced a community-informed process to redesign the application-based grant programs for our three partner foundations: F. R. Bigelow Foundation, Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation and Mardag Foundation. Today, we are announcing an update on that work. Beginning in 2026, each of the three Foundations will make grants using new application processes and updated funding priorities. We anticipate posting detailed guidelines and application information late in 2025. To create the capacity our staff needs to operationalize these changes, the three Foundations will each implement transitional grant rounds in 2025. More details about the grant redesign and transitional grantmaking are available at https://lnkd.in/gYHFJR-f

In recent years, with the help of Bush Foundation's Partnership Fund, cultural leadership organizations like African American Leadership Forum, COALITION OF ASIAN AMERICAN LEADERS, LatinoLEAD and Tiwahe Foundation have grown to become critical community resources in Minnesota. In 2017 the four organizations joined forces in an initiative called LinkingLeaders. Funded by F.R. Bigelow Foundation, LinkingLeaders aims to assess and understand the gaps between leaders of color and leadership opportunities across sectors. It’s proven to be a deeply valuable source of learning and connection for the participants. We're excited about the work these organizations have accomplished and continue to accomplish together! As we look back on our journey, we also set our sights on an even brighter future. “The long-term vision for the East Metro is that it be a place where people of all incomes, all races, all ethnicities, can live good lives, have great places for their kids to go to school, have great places to work, live in housing they can afford that it just be a really supportive community,” says Board Member Mary Tingerthal. With programs like the Central Corridors Funders Collaborative and the East Metro Main Street Economic Revitalization Program, F. R. F. R. Bigelow Foundation, Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation and Mardag Foundation have awarded more than $8 million to Minnesota nonprofits in the first round of 2024 grantmaking. Grants will provide funding resources for community organizations that provide critical resources to Minnesotans across the state. Many grants support the arts, embrace culture and cultural differences to grow and restore our communities. They also address a variety of concerns including navigating the criminal justice system, the US school system, immigrant communities and preserving Indigenous practices and traditions. Some of the incredible organizationsfunded in this round of grantmaking include We Resolve, Conexiones, Bear Paws Cultural Art, Theresa Living Center, Exposed Brick Theatre and MENDOTA MDEWAKANTON DAKOTA COMMUNITY.
