The Fairmount Park Horticultural Center recently hosted the Crane Safety Climber School. This crane training provides hands-on experience, giving arborists real-world familiarity with rigging and cutting techniques used in crane-assisted tree removals. By hosting the training, the trees at the Fairmount Park Horticultural Center received much-needed care. The training resulted in $60,000 worth of free tree pruning and removal work, over 100 tons of materials, and nearly 4,000 board feet of lumber." We extend a special thank you to the Reforestation Hub, where the lumber is being milled.

Goldenrod is going into bloom all over Philadelphia right now! Their bright, sunshine-yellow flowers reflect the sun's rays as we enter into the winter months, giving us our first glimpse of fall colors on the horizon. Goldenrod is an incredible species - a host plant to over 400 species of butterflies- providing habitat for numerous other insects, including beetles, spiders, and native bees. Just this morning, while appreciating the goldenrod in bloom in our courtyard garden, we saw various types of insects in just five minutes! All looking for their morning meal no doubt. Here is the official press release for the pilot mussel surveying event we did just recently along the Pennypack on the Delaware . Over 100 native freshwater mussels were observed for the first time in this area and we are beyond excited on what the future holds . I want to thank all of our partners and collaborators that made this happend and I cannot wait for more events like this in the future .
