Explora Science Center and Children's Museum

Such a great day at Explora & X Studio on Friday with the UNM-HSC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office. We partnered on their 2024 Black Health Care Careers Expo, “Igniting the Spark: Black Health Care Leaders of Tomorrow." 182 students from 12 Black Student Unions at local high schools--all exploring the vast array of health care careers open to them here in New Mexico! Thank you, Amy K. Greene, Stacy Collier, and Roberta Zayas, and the whole team at UNM-HSC DEI Office! Also, huge thanks to Harold Pope Jr and Nichole Rogers for their participation and mentorship. Finally, thanks to Sheldon Hamilton, always hustling for X Studio and our teens. I can't wait until these teens enter the workforce!

Right now, Julia V Monge and Hugh E. McDonald, Ph.D. are at Arizona State University, working with our amazing partners to talk about uplifting Hispanic youth voices in thinking about the future. Explora Science Center and Children's Museum and Horizons Albuquerque recently hosted a Youth Summit on the Future, where teens heard from a futurist and participated in a variety of breakout sessions. Association of Science and Technology Centers has honored eight member organizations and three individuals with field-wide honors, the Roy L. Shafer Leading Edge Awards "in recognition of extraordinary accomplishments that enhance the performance of their organizations while also significantly advancing and inspiring the entire field." So excited that Explora Science Center and Children's Museum was honored for our new X Studio teen center!

Introducing a groundbreaking event for the next generation of professionals! We're creating a fun and safe space for teens to start their networking journey—no suits or ties required. This is an opportunity for young people to connect, build friendships, and gain essential skills for their future careers. Join us on Saturday, October 5, at XStudio from 12 PM to 4 PM. We recently celebrated the official opening of our newest exhibit, The Science of Kindness, developed, fabricated, and installed in partnership with The Jennifer Riordan Foundation. The Science of Kindness provides a distinctive interactive opportunity for New Mexico families and visitors to explore neurochemistry, psychology, and other science related to the giving and receiving of kindness. It also gives the occasion to experience Jennifer Riordan’s mantra of being "kind, loving, caring, and sharing" through creative, hands-on learning. The Science of Kindness exhibition is made possible by generous support from The Jennifer Riordan Foundation and Lilly Endowment in collaboration with New Mexico Gas Company, Wells Fargo, Dion's, HB Construction, Sandia National Laboratories, Fidelity Investments, Bank of Albuquerque, US Eagle Federal Credit Union, Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), and Aui Inc.
