Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it actually takes to feel part of a community. Not just knowing people, but truly belonging—to a place, to a mission, to each other. The truth? Connection doesn’t just happen. It’s built. And last week in Seattle, I saw two powerful examples of what that looks like in action. At Experience Momentum’s Winter StokeFest, the room was filled with people who care deeply—about the outdoors, about climate, about each other. Not just another fundraiser, but a reminder that when business and impact align, we all win. Some came for the cause (shout out Protect Our Winters). Some came for the waffles (which, let’s be honest, was the only reason people wanted to talk climate finance). But everyone left feeling part of something bigger. At Seattle Welcome Day for the US Chamber of Connection, something remarkable happened. People who had just moved to the city sat next to those who had been here for years but still felt like outsiders. In a few short hours, strangers mapped out their visions for life here, made plans to meet every two weeks, and pledged—yes, literally pledged—to help rebuild the culture of connection we all crave. It was proof that people are hungry for belonging. We just need an excuse to show up. ?? What This Means for All of Us We talk a lot about networking, but real connection isn’t about transactions—it’s about shared purpose. It’s about: ?? Choosing to show up for something bigger than yourself ?? Finding your people by helping others find theirs ?? Remembering that no one builds anything meaningful alone What’s one thing you can do this week to create more connection in your world? Join a group. Send a message. Invite someone in. Because communities don’t just happen—we build them.
