? Make the Work Meaningful ? ? ? Make the Work Impactful ? ? ? Hopefully Ask and Engage? ? These are 3?? important lessons that Co-Superintendent Ed Ingman of The Graham Family of Schools and Instructional Coach Samantha Lortz-Baird learned along the way to improve implementation, efficiency, and autonomy in their schools. ?According to Co-Supt Ingman: ?? “If the work is not meaningful, people won’t own it. And if they don’t own it, they won’t be able to communicate it to others. It’s that sense of ownership that truly drives success.” ? ??Lincoln County School District, Oregon HR Director Dr. Tiana DeVries recently earned the American Association of School Personnel Administrators’ Executive Human Capital Leader in Education certification. ?? In pursuit of her #eHCLE, Dr. DeVries explored how to set up new-to-the-district teachers for success.? ? ? Knowing that time is a precious commodity, Dr. DeVries piloted a program of adding 5 days to the previous year’s onboarding program. By doubling the amount of time for those new to the district and including two classroom days for integrating the learning, the district improved the experience for newcomers. Success was measured through staff and mentor feedback to improve ongoing implementation. ? In Dr. DeVries’ words: ? ???“Taking that time with other like-minded people who aren’t in my org and aren’t my supervisor is an important piece that the program offered.” ? ???“Time for reflection is not something that we always build in. Unless you manage your schedule and have people help you think about those things, like meeting every month for eHCLE, you won’t actually take the time to envision how the district and the department are able to best help students, educators, and other parts of the organization.” ? ????“Being part of a nationwide group is just really powerful, and I always recommend that people do it!” ? ????Watch Dr. DeVries’ video that explains more about her experience with the eHCLE process and how she is elevating the profession. ? #eHCLE #onboarding #NationalCohort

5?? We are all about solutions, and the current educator shortage needs more than one way to solve the problem. Five shifts move us from hyper-focus on the problem to intentional focus on forward action. ? ?? At this event hosted by the American Association of School Personnel Administrators, our team members engaged together with other smart thinkers from across the country to address strategies that work for fixing the #EducatorShortage. ???? We look forward to sharing more insights from the event's participants to help with local solutions to serve all American students.
Exciting conversations and actionable ideas emerged during the interactive session I helped facilitate at the American Association of School Personnel Administrators National Educator Shortage Summit with Sara Skretta, Ed.D., PHR and Stephen Fujii, pHCLE! Together, education leaders engaged in a hands-on activity to generate and categorize strategies for educator retention. Through rapid brainstorming and deep discussion, participants identified five key shifts that will form the foundation of the 5 Shifts to Retain Educators. These shifts address critical areas, including: ?? Leadership & Experience ?? Compensation & Benefits ?? Well-being & Work-Life Integration ?? Development & Career Management ?? Recognition & Appreciation The energy and commitment in the room were inspiring! By sharing challenges, strategies, and innovative solutions, we’re taking meaningful steps toward strengthening educator retention and supporting those who make a difference every day. A big thank you to all who participated and contributed their insights. Let’s keep the momentum going! ?? #EducationRetention #TeacherShortage #HRinEducation #5Shifts #NationalEducatorShortageSummit
