ExLabs enjoyed hosting Pawe? Ziorko and team to share about our #Apophis mission.

Yesterday in Long Beach, California, we spoke with Matthew Schmidgall, CEO of ExLabs, about their upcoming mission to the asteroid Apophis in 2028. The mission will involve deploying three cubesats into Apophis’ orbit to test technologies needed for future asteroid capture and resource acquisition operations. Matt also mentioned ExLabs’ collaboration with the Polish company Scanway Space with whom they’ve worked on optical systems for previous space projects. It’s inspiring to hear Polish companies being mentioned more frequently in international collaborations — it fills us with pride! We are ecstatic to be partnered with NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Lorraine Fesq for the Apophis asteroid mission! Apophis is ~350 meters across and will pass closer to the Earth than GEO on April 13, 2029 - this flyby happens only once every thousand years for an asteroid of this size. We anticipate a launch taking place by May 2028 and arrival to Apophis in February 2029. Our team views this opportunity with JPL as a fantastic collaboration for tech transfer and for us to be able to truly understand what it takes to get to an asteroid (wise words from our SVP and former Air Force Research Laboratory Chief Scientist, Thomas Cooley??). #asteroidmission #spaceexploration #inspaceresourceutilization #exlabs https://lnkd.in/g5Bggjnb

ACQR (autonomous capture and acquisition robot) has received a $1.9 million Tactical Funding Increase (TACFI) from SpaceWERX! We are also developing SERV (Space Exploration and Resource Vehicle) spacecraft designed to host payloads of 30 metric tons in its fully stacked configuration. Why does this TACFI matter? This funding enables us to advance ACQR from a non-dilutive perspective which, when combined with SERV, will be capable of capture and control of large objects in space. The long-term goal of our team is to provide the world’s largest operational spacecraft to support asteroid retrieval missions for in-situ resource utilization (ISRU) in cislunar space. #spaceexploration #rendezvousproximityoperations #onorbitcapture #spaceeconomy https://lnkd.in/gcTP-vZc
