At Executive Unschool, we believe being thankful sometimes means allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. When we've pushed through seemingly insurmountable challenges or tough obstacles, acknowledging the pain, hardship, and even fear, can be powerful for your team to hear. Just because you're a people leader doesn't mean you don't also have your own insecurities. Open dialogue in team settings where you share your gratitude for the wins AND for what you learned in the struggles is one way to create connection and avoid unrealistic positivity. #thankfultogether #consciousleadership #vulnerability #executiveunschool

The lost art of mentorship Mentorship is poorly executed in so many organizations. There's either a formal program that fizzles more than it fosters growth or well-meaning folks devote zero time, attention, and energy to it because it's not urgent and on fire (like most work). The absence of meaningful mentorship also leads to resentment because new people leaders are thrown into the deep end WITHOUT proper training, guidance, or tools even though leading people is cited as the most challenging skill to learn. In the workplace, being a leader who gives back means creating opportunities, fostering strengths, and developing future leaders. What does that look like for you? What's worked for you? Together we can bring back the lost art of mentorship. ______________ Hi, I'm Bree. With @executiveunschool, I bring harmony to workplaces. When you're fed up at work and want to feel and do better, I'll be ready for you. We consult with, facilitate for, and lead programs for executives and small & medium businesses. #mentorshipmatters #giveback #executiveunschool #privatementorship

Breaking the "thanks" barrier... Gratitude is essential, yet how often do we shy away from showing it at work? We put on our "tough guy or gal" mask and move on to the next task to do. Or we send back an empty "thanks!" message without truly connecting. ?? So here’s a challenge: reach out to one colleague that did something meaningful or exceptional and express thanks for how it helped you and your work. It truly takes a village to be successful and to keep all it all moving. Tag your thank you here too. #breakingbarriers #gratitudeinaction #executiveunschool #consciousleadership

How do you model gratitude in your leadership? Gratitude starts with leaders who lead by example. The traits that we desire to amplify on our teams require our active encouragement. They can't be an afterthought or unstated expectation. This past week our founder Bree Johnson started a workshop by asking everyone to write 20 things for which they were grateful. It shifted the entire energy of the meeting and reminded us all that no matter how stressful or challenging things feel, there is always room for gratitude for what is. How can you amplify appreciation this month? ?? Share your ideas on helpful and conscious ways to honor and uplift those around us through practicing and encouraging gratitude ?? This one's for the introverts, empaths, and quiet processors. It’s easy to overlook the quieter contributors on our teams. So let's be intentional and take a moment to spotlight their invaluable work. Tag them here and let’s celebrate the difference they make. #unsungheroes #executiveunschool #workwellbeing #gratitudeinleadership

There’s a common misconception when it comes to the severity of experiences that cause work wounds. You see, people often assume that wounds can only be caused by extreme trauma, like verbal abuse, sexual harassment, and the like. This is completely untrue! Work wounds can be caused by a range of experiences and are valid no matter how “severe” they seem to others. Here’s how work wounds show up later in life when not treated: -Shaming yourself by thinking of that ONE time you made a mistake -Regretting times when you were silent and “should’ve” spoken out -Immediately moving into the next role after job loss without reflection -Experiencing the hangover effect after leaving a toxic role or organization It’s absolutely imperative, for your mental health, that you acknowledge work wounds and do the inner work to heal them so that you can move forward. What work wounds are you still feeling the effects of?
