“The intention of the MBTA Communities law is to increase opportunities for new housing, which will lower costs for us all, and we commend cities and towns who are planning for the future needs of their residents. Forward-looking communities are not only seeking compliance with the law but working hard to seize this opportunity to create and expand vibrant, affordable neighborhoods that meet the needs of their young families, senior citizens, and municipal workforce," said Ed Augustus, Secretary of Housing and Livable Communities. Since Monday, town meetings in #Belmont, #Foxborough, #Hopkinton, #ManchesterbytheSea, #Seekonk, #Shirley, #Shrewsbury, #Ashland, #Kingston, #Millis, and #Bellingham approved new multifamily zoning districts. https://lnkd.in/eE5bFDdX

Last week, Secretary Augustus met with the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Massachusetts (HBRAMA) to talk about the important work of our Unlocking Housing Production Commission. This Commission has been tasked with compiling recommendations that would address zoning, regulatory, and financial challenges and create new opportunities for housing production. Stay tuned in the new year for the final report! #UHPC #UnlockingHousingProductionCommission

Secretary Augustus was in Ludlow yesterday to celebrate the Residences at Mill 8. This incredible development created 95 mixed-income apartments for older adults while repurposing an old mill and restoring the town’s iconic clock tower. The Executive Office of Housing & Livable Communities is proud to have contributed $12.5 million in state subsidies, including $5.5 million in ARPA funds. In addition, we are pleased to deliver more than $23 million in Federal and State Low-Income Housing Tax Credit equity. Plus, this project received a $3.5 million MassWorks grants to support the community's infrastructure needs. Congratulations to WinnCompanies for this beautiful adaptive reuse project. ?

Last week, MassINC announced the release of a 2024 Gateway Cities Housing Monitor report that will help inform good public policy and aid us in building the state’s 5-year housing plan that identifies the kind of housing we need to keep our competitive edge. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/eNh5ZAxy ??: Secretary Augustus was recently awarded the Gateway Cities Champion Award at MassINC's annual conference for Gateway City leaders.

Secretary Augustus attended the annual Commonwealth Investor Conference yesterday. In Massachusetts, we aren’t doing one thing to address our housing challenges, we are doing everything. From zoning reform - to increased investments - to policy changes the Healey-Driscoll Administration is taking the lead and moving toward a Massachusetts where our workforce can fulfill their own American dream.

Up through the 1980s, Massachusetts was building around 30,000 new homes a year. Since then, production has dropped by nearly half. Put simply: We don’t have enough homes. Secretary Augustus attended the New England Affordable Housing Management Association's annual conference this week to talk about the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s record on new housing investments. #AffordableHomesAct #MBTACommunities #HousingAdvisoryCouncil #UnlockingHousingProductionCommission

The Affordable Homes Act is more than a bond bill, it's an investment in the future of Massachusetts. Within the first 100 days of signing the Affordable Homes Act, 41% of the policies have been implemented, and substantial progress has been made on ADUs, Public Housing, and our new Office of Fair Housing.
