Chinese Telecom Hacks: What Happened and How to Protect Yourself ?? A large-scale cyberattack, known as Salt Typhoon, has targeted U.S. telecommunications providers. Chinese state-sponsored hackers infiltrated at least nine major telecom networks, gaining access to: ? Call records and unencrypted messages (including SMS MFA codes) ? Communications of high-profile individuals, including government officials ? Sensitive law enforcement request data The U.S. government has responded with sanctions and security advisories, but what can you do to protect yourself? ?? Stop using SMS-based Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Instead: ?? Use TOTP MFA apps like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator ??
