#EWAsTER ??We are proud to present to your attention an example from our partner from Slovenia?Okoljsko Raziskovalni Zavod (Environmental Research Institute) of REUSING PLASTIC from E-WASTE, which contributes to reducing the amount of e-waste plastic while simultaneously creating durable and useful products and including vulnerable groups – people with disabilities in the process. ??Alternative Use – Creating Shelters for Pets?? The use of recycled plastic from e-waste for pet shelters is an excellent solution, as it provides thermal insulation, moisture protection, and easy maintenance while also reducing environmental impact by decreasing waste production. #EWAsTER Validation Workshop in Málaga, Spain ???? ??We had our 3rd international event with the participation of all consortium partners! Over two days we had the opportunity to debriefing of the project roadmap and the project’s next steps, welcomed at the “La Térmica” Cultural Center. Hosted by Consorcio RSU Málaga, the workshop program was mainly focused on presenting the drafts of LAPs, the Methodology and the online self-assessment tool. Also, the pilot tests WEEE Behave, WEEE Procure and WEEE Reuse, that will be applied in partners regions throughout 2025 were discussed. ?Moreover, partners benefited from a presentation by a professor from the local University of Málaga, which highlighted the lack of usefulness in focusing solely on collection rates due to the highly toxic materials that are most environmentally damaging that are contained in a very small percentage of e-waste. ?The consortium assisted a presentation by the company Recilec, a private shareholder-owned company working in e-waste. ? Finally, the Province of Málaga’s Department of Environment presented the Málaga Viva Project – a strategy to fight climate change in the province of Málaga through an interdepartmental, teamwork-focused approach. ??All participants enjoyed also the great visit to the historic centre of Malaga. #EWAsTER ?? This week, the Municipality of Neum (Bosnia and Herzegovina) held a workshop at the Neum High School, as part of the project. ?? Through a presentation and an interesting quiz, students were introduced to the importance of disposing of e-waste. ?? Students were informed about the problems associated with e-waste, such as environmental pollution, resource depletion, and human health. This helped students in the classroom to understand the importance of sustainable consumption and recycling as well. ?? EWAsTER consortium believes that increasing the awareness of citizens from the early school age is as much important as increasing the awareness of the policy representatives at local or regional level! ? #EWAsTER ?? During 2025, we will start testing the 3 pre-identified innovative solutions in partner’s country areas. ?? PACT (Portugal), LINK (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and ORZ (Slovenia) are involve in testing the pilot action WEEE REUSE ? ?? This solution promotes the creation of new business models for reuse of plastic and providing second life to e-waste, with a special focus on social enterprises in the WEEE sector. ?? WEEE has large potential to develop rural companies, or social business models when profitability is diluted to achieve more social and responsible objectives. #EWAsTER ?? During 2025, we will start testing the 3 pre-identified innovative solutions in partner’s country areas. ?? Aradippou (Cyprus), Rethymno (Greece), UBBSLA (Bulgaria), UCPB (Italy) and RSU-Malaga (Spain) are involve in testing the pilot action WEEE BEHAVE. ?? This solution seeks to increase the amount of e-waste collected and delivered to new businesses, assuring a constant source of material, and a long-term sustainability. Increasing the awareness of citizens from the early school is as much important as increasing the awareness of the policy representatives at local or regional level. Sо, several campaigns will be launched simultaneously on different partners areas, covering: ?? At schools, fun learning activities about recycling WEEE, will move students (and their families) to learn about the importance of WEEE circularity. Additionally, a competition on WEEE recycling will be promoted. ?? At City Halls by sharing and informing about existing best practices in WEEE management, together with economic, social and environmental benefits. #EWAsTER ??During 2025, we will start testing the 3 pre-identified innovative solutions in partner’s country areas. ?? The Municipality of Neum (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Region Marche (Italy) and UBBSLA (Bulgaria) are involve in testing the pilot action WEEE PROCURE.?? The objective of this pilot is to test new eco-innovative business models based on the eco-renting of EEE. Eco-renting of electronic equipment can be an efficient procurement system for many sectors affecting MED, such as the tourism sector, the public administration, or the general private sector. We will define a procurement framework in cooperation between the demand side and the offer side, which allows the creation of a new eco-business achieving: ?? The procurer gets better prices for an always updated technology, without the generation of WEEE. ?? The seller can create a new business line, including equipment maintenance and reselling of equipment through the enlargement of the usability in a second live. During 12 months, involved partners will gather data from demand and offer side, creating the legal framework for the launching of the tenders, which will be done outside the project funding. #EWAsTER ? We just finished our online partners meeting today. Both the self-assessment tool and the Local Action Plans for e-waste management are nearly ready, with expected delivery by partners between late January and early February 2025. During next Partners meeting & Validation workshop in Malaga, we will start discussing in details our pilot tests actions. The partners involved in pilot actions are: WEEE REUSE: LINK, PACT, ORZ. #EWAsTER ?? 3rd Validation Workshop in Malaga, hosted by RSU Málaga ? Provincial Waste Consortium of Malaga is a public administration that manages the waste of 91 municipalities in the Province of Malaga, serving some 540,000 inhabitants. RSU is a technical partner with large experience in the practical application of e-waste strategies and roadmaps, specially focusing on rural areas where logistic and economic models are more difficult to be viable. ??
