For law firm leaders, managing your non equity partners is a challenging task. The most consistently profitable model is "up or out" -- non equity partners demonstrate they can profitably support an equity partner practice in 2-3 years, or they become a part of regular attrition. Many, many firms admit non equity partners that don't fit this bill, and they become a drag on profitability all too easily.
