Evoca Foundation presents I See Myself in You, an immersive textile-based installation commissioned for International Women’s Day 2025. Conceptualized by Evoca and realized in collaboration with contemporary artist Noor Al Tamimi, this piece centers on a hand-tufted, ornamented mirror, installed at Battersea Arts Centre in London and available for viewing until Sunday, March 16. This work honors the lineage of textile arts—a practice through which women across cultures have shared stories, histories, and identities. Fabric, historically dismissed as “domestic” or “decorative,” has also been a radical space for storytelling and resistance. From coded messages in quilts sewn by enslaved women to banners stitched by suffragettes and arpilleras woven as tools of resistance in Chile, textile work has long been a vessel for memory, survival, and transformation. These acts of creation—often overlooked as craft—have been, and continue to be, a force for social change. In this installation, the tufted mirror becomes both an object and a metaphor: A reflective surface that invites viewers to consider their identities within the collective experience of womanhood. A richly textured frame that speaks to the layered narratives women carry and share. ?? ?? Introducing INTERWOVEN: Stories of Resilience, Connection, and Creativity Through Textile Art Textile is a language, a legacy, and a testament to resilience. Across cultures and centuries, women have used thread and fabric to tell their stories, preserve their histories, and assert their identities. Evoca Foundation is proud to present Interwoven, a mixed-media portrait series that reimagines and honors the rich tradition of textile art. From the encoded quilts of the Underground Railroad to protest banners in suffrage movements, textile art has long been a quiet force for change and solidarity amongst women. Interwoven celebrates this enduring legacy, inviting us to reflect on the power of collective creativity in shaping a more equitable world. #InterwovenSeries #TextileArt #Storytelling #ResilienceThroughArt #MixedMediaArt #CulturalHeritage
