Automated tax management and trading is a big thing. Thanks to Nathan DiCamillo from FundFire for including me in an article about Morgan Stanley expanding their Parametric solution. Some deeper thoughts about it Adding tax management to active equity strategies adds cost. ~30bps for the strategy plus 10-20bps for overlay management is not insignificant. What is the probability that the active manager delivers excess return compared to an appropriate benchmark? What will have a larger impact on the probability of a client achieving their long-term goals, manager alpha or reducing tax drag?
