Pioneering application of evidence-based methodologies to toxicology
关于我们
EBTC was founded in 2011 at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. EBTC's vision is to improve the public health outcomes and reduce human impact on the environment by bringing evidence-based approaches to safety sciences. We believe that adopting principles of transparency, objectivity and consistency, similar to Cochrane principles in clinical research, will allow regulators, industry and other stakeholders make more informed decisions about the effects of chemicals on human health and environment, determine the validity and accuracy of old and new tests, and eventually bring regulatory science in all industries and on all continents up to date with scientific advances. EBTC is planning to accomplish this by bringing all interested stakeholders together under EBTC’s roof to work on methodological challenges and to apply the evidence-based approaches to high-impact problems that involve safety decisions and serious public health implications.

Last chance to hear Paul Whaley, Editor-in-Chief of EBTC's journal, talk about our work on supporting open research practices in toxicology and how this intersects with building trust in science. (Although he doesn't like using the word "trust".)
In an era of rising misinformation, maintaining trust in scholarly literature is more important than ever. We’re pleased to present a webinar next Wednesday, March 5, at 16:00 GMT which will bring together expert panelists Matt Cannon, Dr. Rebecca Taylor-Grant, Dr. Coromoto Power Febres, Dr. Allyson Lister, and Dr. Paul Whaley, who will each present, followed by a structured discussion around fostering transparency, reliability, and credibility in research. If you are interested in open science and research integrity, and how these intersect with editorial policy at scientific journals, you should register for this panel session with Paul Whaley, Editor-in-Chief of EBTC's journal Evidence-Based Toxicology and co-chair of our Open Science Working Group.
I'll be chairing a Taylor & Francis Group panel discussion on the intersection of Open Research and Research Integrity (and what this means for "trust" in research) on Wednesday 5 March, please do sign up and join us! We have an excellent panel planned, including Paul Whaley, Allyson Lister, Matt Cannon and Coromoto Power Febres bringing their perspectives on reproducibility, transparency, policy, engagement and of course (!), the impact of AI. Everyone is welcome, join the conversation here: https://lnkd.in/evcp9wRu #openresearch #researchintegrity #openscience

This was one of the collaborations that made the #ESHackathon 2023 such a great experience that we sponsored the 2024 event. This is really thoughtful work, improving how we interpret the inconsistency of study results in a body of evidence and (bear with us here!) in the options it opens up for improving the consistency with which researchers can assess inconsistency. ??
Assistant Professor at Department of Community Medicine, Information and Health Decision Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal
In our new GRADE-related paper, we have developed two new indices (DI/ASI) to measure inconsistency in the context of meta-analysis. These indices aim to overcome some of the limitations of the classical statistical measures of heterogeneity (e.g., I2). In particular, they follow a decision threshold-centred approach, in line with what is increasingly being advocated by the GRADE Working Group. To support this paper, we have developed a R package available in CRAN (metainc: https://lnkd.in/dqVwUJaP) and web app for everyone interested in calculating these indices (https://metainc.med.up.pt/). This project was the result of a team work (with some great collaborative work at Evidence Synthesis Hackhaton), including - among others - Rafael José Vieira, Manuel Marques da Cruz, Sara Gil Mata, Paul Whaley and Luís Azevedo. Last day of the #ESHackathon. Bernardo Sousa Pinto is describing his team's work on automating certain parts of network meta-analysis (which, it has to be admitted, are above this poster's pay grade!). Another excellent year, as always! Updates on tooling to support better PECO statements coming soon, watch this space. ??

EBTC is really pleased to be sponsoring this year's #ESHackathon in Newcastle, UK. This is the PECO-Buddy team, working on tooling to support systematic reviewers formulate unambiguous, machine-readable objectives statements for their SRs and SR protocols. (It could do other things too, but we are starting with that.) Thanks to Chris Pritchard and Matt Jones and everyone else contributing!

We are delighted to be contributing to the GRADE Working Group ontology for assessing certainty of evidence and strength of recommendations for interventions. If you want to know a little more about what the ontology is, how it is being created, and why such ontologies are potentially useful, then watch from 1h2m40s of this video - from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) conference on data readiness for #AI https://lnkd.in/eewEwYBr
