How does a consultant-turned-founder build a $30M fund? 1. Using your unconventional background as part of your investment thesis “edge” 2. Starting with a rolling fund Cindy Bi, a former consultant/operator/founder, created a rolling fund on AngelList for CapitalX’s Fund 1. Through this model, she was able to attract LP’s from around the world for CapitalX, an enterprise focused early-stage VC. ? We’re talking top-tier LPs like: →GPs at other VC funds: Marc Andreessen & Chris Dixon, David Sacks →VC Fund of Funds: Tiger Global, Foundation Capital →Dropbox cofounder Arash; portfolio unicorn founders Nicolas from Algolia and John from SendBird →Other startup founders and operators from Stripe, DoorDash, Airbnb, Google, Meta, etc. →Family offices? ? CapitalX zeroed in on a few key points: ? Founder-first intuition to find & back founders who might be overlooked by other VCs. ? Analytical insider insight and intuitive outsider mentality; ? Unique public data-driven process and online-first and offline-optional approach ? $100K-$500K checks at seed, with later-stage SPVs. Check out CapitalX's Fund 1 deck???
