Day Three of our celebration of the last week of #PictureBookMonth! Millions of people around the world have become refugees due to conflict, climate change, natural disasters, oppression and other challenges. Many of those impacted are children. "What Makes Me Feel: A Refugee Story" by Devendra Veda from 106 Press shares the story of three children from different parts of the world who have been forced to flee their homes. A challenging topic but an important one to discuss with young children, the illustrations and stories help children understand aspects of this issue and give refugee children a way to see they are not alone. https://lnkd.in/dC7JHHmU

Although #WorldKindnessDay was celebrated a few days ago, we still thought that this article was timely and well-worth sharing. #Kindness in all forms and in all settings is key to being a good #GlobalCitizen, but research shows that being kind releases oxytocin which can reduce stress and anxiety. An environment of kindness leads to increased feelings of #empathy and #inclusivity, many of the qualities educators strive to instill in their students! Find some practical suggestions from Cambridge for implementing kindness in the classroom here: https://lnkd.in/dJ62eEUQ And since we always love to talk about great books, here are a few titles we really enjoy around the topic of kindness: The Kindness Booth from Capstone https://lnkd.in/dGXd2rh8 Being Kind of Friends from North Star Editions, part of the Spreading Kindness Series https://lnkd.in/dpfRGuwa Mela and the Elephant from Cherry Lake Publishing Group https://lnkd.in/dwWfdeB6 A Kids Book About Kindness Online from DK, coming April 2025

It is so important that students can see themselves and those around them reflected in the literature they read. Be that representations of their culture, country, language or experiences, of which #MentalHealth is one. Offering a diverse selection of titles to students provides both a mirror and window so that students can feel seen and heard but also become more empathetic and open-minded to the experiences and backgrounds of others. "As a teenager, I really needed Comics Plus or something similar: a digital library that championed manga, comics and graphic novels as valid forms of reading. An educational resource that showed that visual literature deserved respect and representation in libraries." Ellie Lathbridge's personal experience as a reader is one of the reasons Comics Plus exists. ?? Reading comics IS real reading, too. #ReadAllTheComics #libcomix #libraries
