Seeking to identify the barriers that prevent all students from graduating high school on pathways to adult success.

关于我们

The mission of the Everyone Graduates Center is to develop and disseminate the know-how required to enable all students to graduate from high school prepared for college, career, and civic life. Through a systematic and comprehensive approach, EGC combines analysis of the causes, location, and consequences of the nation’s dropout crisis with the development of tools and models designed to keep all students on the path to high school graduation, and capacity building efforts to enable states, communities, school districts, and schools to provide all their students with the supports they need to succeed. The Everyone Graduate Center seeks to identify the barriers that stand in the way of all students graduating from high school prepared for adult success, to develop strategic solutions to overcome the barriers, and to build local capacity to implement and sustain them.

We invite you to engage with school teams from across the country as they share innovative ideas for transforming schools. This year’s redesign challenge encouraged school teams, comprised of students, teachers, and school leaders, to design learning experiences that strengthen middle and high school students’ engagement with school or show them the skills and knowledge used in different careers and how to access the schooling and training needed to obtain them. Some teams have incorporated both approaches into their visions. • In episode seven of Designing Education, Tim Knowles, president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, joins Dr. Robert Balfanz for a thought-provoking discussion about the evolving role of American high schools. This episode examines the urgent need to redesign high school education to meet the demands of today’s world, focusing on preparing students for modern opportunities and challenges, creating smoother transitions to post-secondary education or training, and empowering families to make informed decisions. The discussion sheds light on a critical issue: the sharp decline in college enrollment among the Class of 2024. This cohort, shaped by a disrupted high school experience during the pandemic—virtual learning in ninth grade, increased absenteeism in tenth grade—now questions the relevance of traditional education. Far from being a temporary setback, this trend signals concerns for the future. Educational attainment remains essential, with profound connections to health, civic engagement, and economic prosperity. This episode is a call to action for educators, leaders, families, and communities to collaborate in reimagining high schools and post-secondary transitions, ensuring students are equipped to thrive in today’s rapidly changing world. • Pathways to Success: Rethinking High School and Beyond
  • This paper is designed for those interested in understanding how to effectively engage students as co-designers in creating pathways to career success.?At the heart of the On Track to Career Success (OTCS) project is a commitment to shifting traditional systems and practices that typically involve policy makers, business leaders, and school district administrators. Instead, OTCS elevates and values the voices of students, families, educators, and community members, making them central co-creators of future career pathways. Launched in 2020, the OTCS initiative is now in its fourth year of collaborating with schools and communities, particularly in historically underrepresented areas like Albuquerque, New Mexico, and New Orleans, Louisiana. These schools serve predominantly Black, Indigenous, and other students of color. The project strives to ensure that every student can access pathways that lead to high school graduation, post-secondary opportunities, and careers that offer family-supporting wages. This paper highlights: - The three foundational elements of the OTCS framework: 1. Milestones:?evidence-based academic, social-emotional, college and career milestones for students in grades 9-12. 2. Student Success Systems:?tools and systems to monitor and support students’ progress toward career readiness.? 3. Pathways to Career Success:?exposure for all students to a series of college and career explorations, experiences, applications, and engagements. - Case studies that illustrate student-centered collaborations in action, highlighting successes, challenges, and valuable lessons learned by their school communities. - The processes and methodologies that guided co-created implementation efforts at each school. - The resources that are integral to the project’s efforts, particularly those aimed at co-designing with students and the educators, families, and communities who support them. Why Read This Paper: The OTCS project challenges traditional top-down reform by placing students and their communities at the forefront of change. Readers will learn practical strategies to engage students as?active participants in shaping their educational and career pathways.?This paper provides the insights and tools needed to foster meaningful collaborations that lead to systemic, sustainable change in education and career readiness. If your goal is to learn how to engage students in the co-design of systems that ensure they remain on track for career success, this paper is an essential resource. https://lnkd.in/evP4-Dnt

For the Sake of America’s School Children, Congress Must Keep AmeriCorps Going: "This is a key moment to help schools and children across the country. There is broad bipartisan agreement about the urgency of addressing learning gaps and absenteeism, and there is enormous public support for initiatives like tutoring that reach the most vulnerable kids. Congress needs to ensure that AmeriCorps can deploy the tens of thousands of dedicated individuals willing to serve in schools and communities at this crucial moment. AmeriCorps works in all 50 states — one of the rare programs that benefits both red and blue America. The cost of restoring AmeriCorps program levels and helping hundreds of thousands of kids is modest. But the cost of inaction is high. Unaddressed learning loss and absenteeism will lead to fewer students graduating prepared for adult success, resulting in social and economic costs to communities and the nation. We urge Congress to support AmeriCorps, its members working in schools across the country and the students they serve." Great opinion piece by Bob Balfanz from the Everyone Graduates Center, Johns Hopkins University and Kevin Huffman of Accelerate. We love the shoutout to our AmeriCorps Promise Fellows! https://lnkd.in/ezF8hGJk
