Everybody Wins! Iowa is a children’s literacy and mentoring nonprofit dedicated to ensuring children’s success.

Everybody Wins! Iowa is a literacy and mentoring organization that is dedicated to increasing children’s success in school through reading and mentoring experiences with caring volunteers. Everybody Wins! Iowa was brought to Iowa in 2002 by Sen. Tom Harkin. During its first year, Everybody Wins! Iowa served 15 children in three schools. Today, Everybody Wins! Iowa serves more than 500 children in 20 schools and community organizations. Power Read is Everybody Wins! Iowa’s signature program. Once a week, volunteer reading mentors travel to nearby elementary schools or community organizations for an hour of one-on-one reading with a student. The program has expanded to 34 sites in Polk, Dallas, Warren, and Marion counties in Central Iowa. After a brief background check, potential volunteer mentors will receive an orientation and be matched with a student. There are many opportunities to volunteer for one-time events as well! Everybody Wins! Iowa is saddened to share the loss of a dear mentor and supporter of our program. Valerie Gramlich passed away recently, following a courageous battle with cancer. Valerie has long been dedicated to Everybody Wins, serving as a Power Read mentor to 5 students at Edmunds Elementary School between 2017 and 2023. Valerie also went above and beyond, serving as a board member since 2022, and as a valued member of our volunteer special events committee since?2020. To thank Valerie for her years of service to our organization, and to note the impact she had, especially at Edmunds, a special book will be added to the school's cart in her honor. https://lnkd.in/ghy4e394

EWI Trivia Night for Youth Literacy Join us at?The Hall (111 S. 11th, WDM) ?for literary-themed trivia on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. Tickets are $20/person and can be?purchased in advance?(https://lnkd.in/gkqNhFe2) or at the door (cash is happily accepted). Teams of up to six are permitted. Arrive at 6 pm to socialize and at 7 pm, be ready to answer 25 book-related questions in five categories. The always-entertaining Ken Chester, Jr., our EWI board treasurer (and a local broadcaster who hosts several nationally syndicated radio shows each week), will serve as our host and he’ll make sure you have a great time. Want a little head start on the competition? One of our five categories is Audiobooks/Podcasts. The Hall is generously donating their space, and every dollar goes directly to EWI to support Power Read students!
