Higher education institutions need to think through the impact of #AI on #teachingandlearning, administrative processes, and strategies. Smaller institutions and others may not have the staffing and resources needed to explore and take advantage of developments in #artificialintelligence on their campuses. This EDUCAUSE article provides a roadmap to help institutions with more limited resources advance AI use on their #campuses. In an era marked by rapid #technologicaladvances and the increasing influence of #artificialintelligence, #educators are faced with the challenge of adapting their teaching methodologies to meet the diverse needs of #students. The powerful synergy between #culturallyresponsiveteaching and humanizing the #studentexperience can significantly enhance #studentoutcomes. Culturally responsive teaching at its best identifies actionable strategies to create a classroom culture that celebrates #diversity, maximizes #studentpotential, and makes meaning out of the evolving #educationallandscape. #Culturallyresponsive #teaching emphasizes the importance of recognizing and valuing students' backgrounds, experiences, and identities in the learning process. By incorporating students' cultural references, perspectives, and #livedexperiences into the #curriculum, educators can create a more inclusive and empowering #learningenvironment. As #educators we strive to use data-backed practices when developing structure for #courses. However, we should also recognize that true dichotomies in approaches and definitions, especially as they relate to practice, create assumptions that are not student centric. We should provide #students with flexibility in their own approach to learning and be respectful of their time and overall dedication to their studies. Students should be able to advance and focus on the things they need to rather than being bogged down with what may be “busy work”, just because WE think it is valuable to the learning process for THEM. With #artificialintelligence technologies becoming increasingly prevalent in #educationalsettings and beyond, it is crucial to examine how #paidAI services will increase disparities in #digitalaccess and literacy. #GenAI resources can be valuable #educationaltools, but their cost may exacerbate the #digitaldivide between wealthy and low-income #students. EDUCAUSE shares a concise justification for #generativeAI companies to provide the full paid version of their products at no cost to #college and #university students in financial need.
