关于我们
Every Hour Counts is a network of organizations from across the country that is leading a movement to expand learning beyond school so that all young people can thrive. Profoundly committed to equity, our network expands access to experiences that bring young people joy and community, build their skills and resilience, and prepare them for adulthood. Young people spend 80% of their waking hours outside of school. We’re making those hours count.

One year ago, Every Hour Counts youth leaders and our Executive Director, Jessica Donner, joined the White House Youth Policy Summit to help shape a future where young people have a seat at the table in policy-making. Read more about the experience and access the report.??
One year ago today I was honored to be a part of a transformative event that was a professional highlight: The White House Youth Policy Summit. The summit brought together federal policymakers, young people, and practitioners to disrupt business as usual at the federal level. It was a day of action, promise and hope. Where passionate young people and federal staffers together crafted what a new future could look like with young people at the table informing policy decisions that directly impact their lives. We heard from youth advocates, spoken word poets, Cabinet Secretaries, community organizers, researchers and youth development experts in insightful sessions anchored around themes of wellbeing, belonging and purpose. At the conclusion of the event, federal policymakers took to the stage and made impressive commitments to how they would change their practices. I have immense gratitude to Shital C. Shah for inviting me to be a part of the planning team to bring the local systems perspective to the conference and for including our Every Hour Counts youth leaders in the event. I was grateful to have the opportunity to facilitate a session on building belonging, healing and meaning in communities and cherished working with our incredible intergenerational advisory team: Shelley Waters Boots, Judith Diers, Andre Simms, Marquan Teetz, Naomi Cruz Ojeda, Shital C. Shah, Nathaniel Kendall-Taylor, Malaak Elhage & Joanna Williams. Thank you to Shelley, Judy, and Shital for pouring your heart into this meeting and to the FAST funders for your commitment and generosity to make this event a reality. Despite the shifted federal landscape, it’s ever important to keep the heartbeat of this summit alive. One of the youth architects of the meeting, Malaak Elhage said it beautifully: "This summit is a stepping stone to establish a foundation for this country where we see young people leading and creating the policy that directly impacts us." To learn more about the event and lift your spirits at this time, check out this report on how to center youth expertise and lived experience in policy making, including the importance of paying youth as experts, training adults to recognize and respect youth expertise, creating spaces and structures that support youth power, and funding through participatory mechanisms that put young people at the forefront of change. Lessons can be applied to policy making at the federal, state and local level.?Take a look and feel free to share!
