Everlit

I’d love your feedback on this: A few weeks ago, I started using a tool called Everlit to take the stories we publish on Inbox Collective and turn them into audio versions. The whole thing uses AI — I think it does a pretty good job of reading the stories. (Here’s an example, if you’re curious —> https://lnkd.in/e6QKGAhm) There were two big reasons to test out Everlit: 1) Accessibility — Having an audio version of stories means that readers with vision impairment can better access all of our content, and anything I can do to make our stories more accessible is a win. 2) Time on site — Readers spend a lot time on our website already (more than 3 minutes per visit), but I was curious to see if it might increase time on site. My question: Have you listened to the Everlit version of a story on our site? And was it useful? This week, the San Francisco Chronicle launched audio versions of stories read by a humanlike automated voice, generated by Everlit. ?? This advanced text-to-speech technology makes Chronicle journalism more accessible, offers readers a new way to engage with Chronicle content during commutes or while multitasking, and caters to a growing audience that prefers to listen instead of read. I'm looking forward to rolling this out across Hearst Newspapers, under Mollie Leavitt's direction, and then thinking through audience experiences we can build with these audio outputs, such as daily personalized playlists of stories generated for subscribers ??
