??#Generative #AI is more than just a buzzword, it’s a technology that is already a very real part of people’s everyday lives. As Everlaw Founder and CEO AJ Shankar highlighted during his keynote address at #EverlawSummit '24, this technology presents tremendous opportunities for legal organizations to uncover insights and get to the truth faster. We believe we’re at a special moment for the legal profession, and are excited to see how #GenAI helps advance the practice. In AJ’s Summit-opening keynote, he detailed how #generative #AI is changing litigation and the profound impact it will have on the legal industry. However, despite the change it will bring, it isn’t going to replace practitioners. ? “There won’t be one killer feature that will do everything,” AJ said of generative AI’s future in the profession. “Rather, it will be integrated into workflows. Organizations that leverage generative AI will experience a massive competitive advantage, finding better needles in the haystack faster, and enabling case leads to tell more powerful stories, leading to better outcomes for your clients.” This idea of using generative AI as a tool to help improve the quality of legal work pervaded all of Summit, and grounded the conversation around it. ?? ?? Cal Yeaman of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP and Jen Jackson of Dolinko and Schwartz joined AJ Shankar, Everlaw Founder and CEO, on stage during the opening keynote at #EverlawSummit as he shared his philosophy on building the best, most-practical technology for legal professionals. ? Cal shared insights into Orrick’s exploration of #GenAI in legal document review, comparing its performance with traditional predictive coding. Although predictive coding has proven effective, the team wanted to see how GenAI would measure up. He initially held reservations about GenAI, but testing revealed game-changing results. GenAI’s coding suggestions were more accurate and consistent than human review, surpassing traditional predictive coding by a statistically significant margin, particularly in identifying responsive and privileged documents. This consistency reduced the need for extensive quality control, with experts spending just 3 hours reviewing 5,000 documents. ? GenAI also delivered substantial efficiency gains, cutting the time needed for managing associates by more than 95% and lowering costs by over 20%. For proficient users, review costs were reduced to just 5-20% of what a managed review would require. Cal noted that the AI’s ability to identify privileged communications was especially impressive, even flagging obscure emails with minimal lawyer identification. These advancements underscore GenAI's potential in legal review, offering speed, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness that meaningfully benefit clients. ? Jen Jackson highlighted how #WritingAssistant has significantly enhanced her firm's legal work. She discussed how “A blank screen is a difficult starting place.” Writing Assistant supports her team in drafting and refining complex documents more quickly, allowing attorneys to focus on case strategy.
